Paul "PK" Kim is the Asian American R&B/Pop, Singer/Songwriter who began his rise to fame on the 6th season of American Idol. Known for his smoky, yet powerful voice, he quickly became a fan favorite, and earned the praise of the three judges. Advancing to the top 12, Paul became the first Asian American male to place as a finalist.
PK spent 3 years with EMI Asia as an artist, and was also a writer and vocal producer for several top artists throughout the region while spending time in Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore. He is a featured artist on EMI's "John Lennon Tribute" album which was released in 2005. His rendition of "Give Peace a Chance" was one of the singles, and the music video was in heavy rotation internationally on networks such as MTV and Channel V.
He got his start in music in a gospel choir which competed in several ACSI showcases throughout the country. Paul's music is deeply rooted in the soul movement of the 70's and cites Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder as his first influences. As his musical tastes broadened, he was also influenced by the likes of Prince and Michael Jackson.
He is currently working with some of the hottest producers and artists around the world as a writer. He's been described as having an impeccable ability to step out the box and create timeless music. His love for the "old mixed in with the new" allows him to pen songs which have been hailed as: A breath of fresh air, modern yet classic, pop injected with substance, universal, and deeply poetic and meaningful.
When describing his writing style he states, "I like to create music that has substance to it. My goal is to pen something you'll want to hear over and over, without getting tired of it. That's why I tend to shy away from the gimmicks associated with bubblegum pop. When you really sit down and create a beautiful melody in addition to heartfelt lyrics, you will have an undeniable classic that you can hear on the radio a decade later, and want to turn up, and which immediately triggers nostalgia." - Bio written by Melissa Chandler
