Petfinder is an online, searchable database of animals who need homes. It is also a directory of more than 10,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico. Organizations maintain their own home pages and available-pet database.

Our mission: to use the Internet to 1) increase public awareness of the availability of high-quality adoptable pets and 2) increase the overall effectiveness of pet-adoption programs across North America until the euthanasia of adoptable pets is eliminated.

From the comfort of their personal computers, pet lovers can search for a pet that best matches their needs. They can then also view a shelter's Web page and discover what services it offers. Petfinder also includes classified ads, discussion forums and a library of animal-welfare articles. Petfinder is updated DAILY.

A cousin found my dog living on the street, all matted up, full of fleas, torn paws so afraid and skinny......she is the best pet I have ever had, well trained and so loving. I was blessed to have her join my family.

I thought that I would let you know how very grateful I am to Petfinder. In December, Luke (above), disappeared. Let me tell you that my sons and myself were so lost and broken by this. I checked Petfinder everyday for a week to see if the local shelters had anything posted and finally, after that week, there he was. Thank you so much for your website and I hope that every situation like ours turns out the same way. Much love.

Thanks to petfinder.com, I found my forever home a year and a half ago. I came from a 'breeder' who was overwhelmed and I was neglected badly. Now I have a crested 'sister' and a great house, and yard and plenty of food in Tennessee! Who knew life could be so great!!

Today is my day to volunteer at the shelter. I assist in spay and neuter in the clinic there.

I have a foster dog on Petfinder listed under the Misissippi Valley German Shepherd dog Rescue. This is the 4th I have had listed with you, the other 3 all found forever homes from being on your site. The MVGSDR has listed many dogs with there.

Thank you for being THE place for people to go to to find good adoptable pets.

thank you for adding me have been looking at your site for a long time now. We lost our dogs 3 years ago one had just turned 11 got sick the day after her bday we found out she had spleen cancer and less than a 5 percent chance of coming off the operating table alive and our second had disc displasyia and was in such bad shape couldn't touch him we had to put both down within a month of each other. We have two cats now and even though we love them it's not the same as having dogs and as am ready for a new dog my hubby isn't so I come here and pray for u all and all that u r doing and for all the animals that they will find forever homes.
God bless u all
nice day

Just a Dog "From time to time, people tell me, lighten up 'it's just a dog', or ‘that's a lot of money to spend on just a dog’. They don't understand. Some of my proudest moments were with 'just a dog'. For many hours, my only company was 'just a dog'. Some of my saddest moments were with 'just a dog', who gave me comfort. 'Just a dog' brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and joy. 'Just a dog' brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. I rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. 'Just a dog' brings out what's good in me. I hope someday you will understand that it's not 'just a dog', but the very thing that keeps me from being 'just a human’.” ~Unknown
