With a mixture of west coast smoothness, midwest flavor, and southern styles, Q is elevated by creating various types of flow depending on the song and the mood. Q sometimes could be compared to Method Man for the lyrical content. Other songs are striking similair to Twista's unprecedented speed of the tongue. Vocally, Q's keys have been compared to the chords of E-40, Paul Wall, with the old school laid-back feel of Shock G. Basically it is hard to find a very similar artist as his vocals are quite distinct and identifiable.

What ever happened to the artists that werent about nothing but the music? The answer is, they are still thereOfficial Q aka Shawn Q aka Q is a simply highly motivated artist in it for the love of music and expression. With over 8 years in writing, recording, and producing, Official Q simply rushed the scene quickly in 2006. Determined to out Louisville area Hip Hop, Q put his money where his mouth is and quickly got heard, with several collaboration concerts and dozens of tracks, Q began building a road to the ultimate goal.
Since 1994, Q has been writin' and rhymin'. At 18 years of age, he began working on a independent album, only to be shut down after alleged involvement in a pseudo career ending criminal case. Shortly, after being released, Q continued to "find his way" to a "normal" life. The writing never stopped. 2 years after his release, and at 26 years old, he was offered a chance at a studio single entitled, "The Louisville Swing," after being discovered in a free-style battle. It was "the Louisville Swing" that has catapulted the infamous question, "who is this guy?" Determined to break the mold, Q's lyrical style includes no gimmicks. Sometimes rhyming in a 1-3, 2-4, and 1-3-6 set, the lyrical content steers away from "bullets" and "bling" concentrating on intelligent rhymes and head-bobbing beats.
Q began recording with local production with the intent to release a single, which quickly turned into a maxi-single, that has since blown into a full length album. As the version was sent for mastering and duplication hype quickly created a need for a greater number of available copies, which was released shortly and then pulled as he was in "talks" with two independent record labels. Now, with deals made, and a bigger backing, the "album of albums" has begun with no word of official release, Q has continued to line-up shows and concerts around the tri-state area to introduce the area to some of the most talented underground artists around.
