Artists thrive on creativity and their ability to think outside the box.
Many use stage names to show a different side of themselves as a way
to express their inner creative genius. But for Stefan 'The Scientist"
Moss, it goes deeper than that. Born on the tiny island of Grand Bahama,
Stefan was blessed with a unique gift. Singing since the age of 5, Moss
discovered his songwriting abilities at the age of 17, forming his first music
group "Ekklesia" in 1993. The group was featured on the local Bahamian teen
show "Teen Spirit" and rocketed to stardom, capturing their first Bahamian
Music Marlin Award the following year. International touring opportunties
followed as the young group travelled throughout the Caribbean with their unique
mix of Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Reggae.
Eager to expand his musical horizons, Stefan relocated to Tennessee in 1998 and
began writing songs and travelling with legendary trumpeter turned gospel
recording artist Phil Driscoll, and his son, Jamie. Out of the late night recording
sessions and road trips came Cross Culture, a diverse mix of gospel, classical
R&B, and reggae that was destined to change the musical landscape, however,
contract negotiations and cultural differences were insurmountable and the group
disbanded.
Remaining artistically focused, Moss took a brief hiatus from music and
while completing his undergraduate studies in Chemistry and Biology, he took to
poetry and oil painting as a way to express his creative talent. The tragic murder of
his father in 2000, however, forced Stefan to return to his island home and leave the
smoky mountains of Tennessee behind. While in the Bahamas, he established
Solomons Minds an art/science organization that focused on cultural development
and green awareness. He also read poetry at many of the local venues including
Koumbah, Verse Place, and the SPOT.
In pursuit of higher education, Moss left the Bahamas again in 2003 completing his Masters
degree in Environmental Science in 2005. However, the two years of rigorous scientific study
were coupled with frequent trips to Nashville, where he met up with 2X Grammy nominated
hip hop group GRITS, and cowrote their hit "HITTIN CURVES". The song would thrust him into
the international spotlight as it garnered him his first Dove Award, and into the history books
as the first Bahamian to walk away with the coveted trophy. In 2006, Stefan relocated to Atlanta
Georgia, a melting pot of southern tradition, soulful music, and culture. His new single
"REGGAE SWAG" is the culmination of his musical journey from the sandy shores of the Caribbean
to the gritty streets of Atlanta.
To date, he has been featured on numerous projects with noted artists such as Toby Mac,
GRITS, Canton Jones, Speech (of Arrested Development), (Knowda)Verbs, Jade Harrell,
Shonlock, Pigeon John, Pettidee, 4th Avenue Jones, Mars Ill, KJ-52, L.A. Symphony, DJ MAJ,
T-Bone, and more.
