The eight songs on The Passion Show are full of vibrant energy and dance rhythms that would be at home in the hottest dance clubs in Europe. Ofir (Ronit Ofir Engel) combines Eurobeat with world music and American pop to create her own unique style, and her vocal range is truly beautiful and impressive. She also throws in some Spanish flavour on Never Call Me Babe, and on It's Awesome she mixes Chinese styles with a dance beat. It's hard to find a basis of comparison but songs like Task of Mind and Outrageous bring Madonna's Ray of Light and Geri Helliwell's It's Raining Men to mind. Ofir does this well in her vocal tilt and lilt(great!!) and lyrics especially the title track and Never Call me Babe and Fire Escape tellingly makes hits on the very pop culutre that the albuma embraces musically. The tension between the lyrical content(good) and the dance oriented artifice makes for an artistically well balanced listenable pot pouri of pop songs. The disc recalls the late 1980' Cosmic Thing by The B52's that justaposed upbeatradio friendly dance pop with social criism that made it so appealing and poignant at the same time .. A definite thumbs up for Ofirs review... nik beat CIUT RADIO
