Boozhoo ! Aanii Aniish na? Hello ..! How are you? I was just curious about your bands name cause I am an Ogima my father's father and his father's father or Four Fathers were all Chiefs as was he.He too was also a Chief of the Fort William First Nation only back then it was called Chippewa Reservation.Your not elected to this position it's inherited .My Father recently passed away September 13 2009 and he was the last of his line of standing Chiefs. So I am always curious as to how or why People have our family name whether were related or not.. after all,my Father did tell us that any person who spells their name Ogima is standing Chiefs and are descendants of his family or Tribe and they all Chiefs or Bosses. We are Ojibwa not Chippewa.Chippewa was the name of our land and still has that name on the deeds of land that were inherited by all Standing Chiefs in the Lake Superior district. But I guess Shakespeare said it best "One Touch of Nature Makes the whole World Kin".My father used to always say this and loved early literature and as a child I thought this was the way his father spoke to him. Years later I was reading some Shakespeare and came across this quote only to realize that my Father was quoting Shakespeare. So my curiosity got me when I came across your bands name.I have recently found some descendants that are relatives and we didn't know about each others existence.Last time I spoke to my Father and told him about meeting some people who spelled their family name the same as ours he quoted Shakespeare and truly believed in these words. He was a peaceful man and respected his bloodline as much as he respected people of all races.Ogima is used in all Native tongues as boss or Chief or people of respect.Great family name I gave this name to our first born and he is very proud of his name and family history. He also will inherit the title as Chief once he returns to the circle.Ogima's are from the Thunder Bay area like the Lake's name Lake Superior it al
