Ohio are a Glasgow band fronted by singer-songwriter Derek Minnis. Developing his own unique sound over the years and at times carrying his influences truly on his sleeve from Folk, Rock, Country & Americana, he writes introspective melodies and songs with passion and honesty. Some key musical influences include Josh Rouse, Wilco, Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, Gram Parsons, The Smiths & Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Additional members of the band include Jason Manson on Lead Guitar and Russell MacKinnon on Drums/Percussion who are excellent musicians that have a passion for playing live and expanding and developing musical ideas. In particular, the live element of performing is something the band enjoys and we are looking forward to playing more gigs and writing new material over the coming months.
Derek continues to play his solo shows around Glasgow and Edinburgh. He recently played a successful solo show through in Edinburgh at The Jazz Bar in front of a packed audience, performing some old and new songs on Piano. He was later joined by a stand-in band whom he met on the evening, to perform some songs on guitar as an encore.
The band will be recording some new tracks shortly which should find their way onto myspace in the near future so keep a look out.
Previous gigs have included:
Glasgow Barrowlands 2,
Retrofest 2008,
Box,
Cosmopol,
Linen,
& The Beat Club.
