The Age Melbourne Magazine - Album of the Month Aug 09
"Potentially be the freshest, smartest song writing partnership since
the Finn brothers"
4 Stars Rolling Stone
Following on from their successful debut EP In The Nude For
Love which featured the singles 'Seemed Like A Good Idea' & 'Lay Everything
On Me', Oh Mercy step out with 'Get You Back' - taken from their debut album
'Privileged Woes'. Recorded in the spare room, the size of a single bed, by
Myles Wootton - the band literally had to put the mattress against the wall
to record. The album was then mixed by Matt Voigt (Cat Power, The Dirty Three,
Paul Kelly) and mastered by Steve
Fallone at Sterling Sound (TV on The Radio, The Strokes)
After touring continuously for 12 months, including national
support slots with Sparkadia, Kaiser Chiefs, Little Birdy & Ben Kweller,
and appearances on the Laneway Festival bill and Come Together festival, Oh
Mercy will hit the road
again in the second half of 2009 in support of the album release as special
guests on the Lisa Mitchell national tour & Ben Folds Opera House shows.
The Age Melbourne Magazine Album of the Month August 2009
"They're delicately textured songs that invite comparisons
with The Kinks at their most introspective, but more potently the airy, folky
music of Belle & Sebastian - exquisitely literate and lyrical yet never
pretentious, unconfronting yet uniformly appealing." 4 Stars Herald-Sun
"Expect your new favourite band" JMAG 2009
'Get You Back' is taken from the Oh Mercy debut album, Privileged
Woes - release date August 21.
I LOVE YOU GUYS YOU ARE SO AMAZING! YOU HAVE THE MOST AMAZING VOICE AND ALL YOUR SONGS ARE INCREDIBLE!!!! my favourite is "Too Far To PLease" ILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY <3
You were all great @ Jive in Adelaide Friday night. I have seen close to seventy bands both big and small over the years and can say you are amongst good company. All the best for the future and thanks for coming to my little city.
Hey, It was so lovely to bump into a couple of you at that myspace do yesterday, wish i could've hung around a bit longer. How was your night anyway?
And, all the best for the album launch on Saturday!! Man, it pains me GREATLY that I can't come. Dang it. Plus I hope you pack out the Corner :) Actually no doubt you will. Just makes me smile when i think about when i first saw you, which was at The Corner early last year, opening for Little Red..gorgeous, later Alex at the merch stand hands me E&E..awww, and that little OM seed of love was planted. Ha ha. Yeah it's just a combination of the 'rentals slash exams slash transport and all that shizzle means i wouldn't be able to come (not by choice clearly!).
Have a wonderful time; album launch, last show of the tour, home town..man I sincerely hope that it's going to be nothing short of amazing for you.
Hopefully see you some time over Summer? Keep well :) My best, Steph x
