i'm totally copying all of this from my webiste, but i need to put SOMETHING on here so i don't look like spam (btw, i totally have a free gift card from Macy's :P )
Energy crises are not new; every time a species runs out of an energy source, populations decline to sustainable levels. With booming population growth and dwindling supply of the most powerful energy supply in the history of mankind, our time has come.
That sinking feeling that so many of us live with (even with the coming of the new year) might be simply a deeper understanding that what we see around us -- this fairytale culture of consumption you and I have created -- is a system that is burning up all we have left.
Alternative fuels and new technology can keep up some of our lifestyle, but all combined can not come close to giving us what oil gives us, meaning a drastic change of lifestyle is unavoidable.
Check out some of these select links, and google whatever from there. For every argument, read its counter argument and ala Fox News, you decide!
Then talk about it. With your friends, family… you'll have to ruffle feathers, as this is something no one wants to hear. Truth through uncomfortable discussion is essential.
Feel free to discuss what you've learned below, or write angry rants of denial.
Let me know if you have any ideas. I can't answer all my mail, but "I do read all of it", as they say. But I mean it.
Who I'd like to meet: people who are dedicated to teaching about peak oil
people who are ready to learn
people who can lend their own skill to be their own kind of oily
i must remove friends who post bulletins more than three times a day... there's so much important info to see that i can't wade through it all otherwise... hope you understand
Cassandra, You're right. You do good work and I really respect it. I don't have any nifty videos or such to post with this comment. But I am studying Renewable Energy, and i don't think RE is a solution that we can just "plug in" to our gluttonous lifestyle. I am starting a company called greenerG^tm and you can learn more about it at http://www. facebook. com/home. php#/pages/greenerG/50202400971
I'd be sincerely honored if you'd check it out. Thanks, Sam
Hello Cassandra. Just an update on the British gas prices; Diesel fuel for cars is now at £1.33 per litre, which equates to £6.65 per gallon, which is around $13 per gallon US. Just out of interest; the same fuel is priced at 7 pence sterling per litre in Saudi Arabia. Anyway, back to Britain. Bare in mind, the average British car does around 30 miles per gallon & delivery trucks do around 8 miles per gallon. Then imagine the impact that has on the economy. Most estimates suggest that £1.50 per litre of gas, is THE 'cut off' point, where the consequence is an irrecoverable financial depression. Which in turn means an undernourished poverty stricken population & a break down in law & order. Probably the first western country to go down that road in history for a while. Simon.
Thanks for the add. I Came across your work via www. theoildrum. com from www. peakoil. com. Keep up the effort. Perhaps it will pay off, don't get annoyed if it doesn't.
*New study says Arctic warming rates could be 3x greater than previous calculations. Scary!
*Soaring gas prices are actually affecting American's driving habits. Yeah!
*The rise in global oil prices has encouraged mainstream conversation regarding peak oil. Intelligent!
These times are a cause for courage- a call for farsighted leadership- and a necessitation of mindfulness and deliberation at all levels of society. Peace and empowerment to you my friend, Darriel.
Today 27th of May 2008, in Britain the price of diesel fuel for cars reached £6.50 sterling per gallon. This equates to $13 US dollars. They put the prices in litres at the fuel stations, so most people can't work it out. Basically there are 5 litres in every 1.0998 imperial gallon. 5 litres actually equates to 1.3209 US gallons now. So America still gets a reasonable deal on fuel by comparison. Prices are still increasing by 4 pence per week & the country is set to grind to a halt, with soaring food prices. There's a fuel protest in London today:
I know a man from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England who has designed & built a factory that runs on solar power. His products are solar panels & electrical power inverters. Some metals (at the moment) have to be used in manufacture. He buys those, yet he makes all the plastic components from recycled plastic bottles, using solar energy. He also has a solar powered truck that will pull 35 tons, silently with zero pollution & no need to plug it in to recharge it (using the "green panels"). Sounds good eh? He's been offered millions of pounds for the patent & still refused to sell the idea, because its multinational oil companies who want the idea so they can 'shelve' it. He needs a backer, not a buyer.
Hi! Please read my blog on gas prices and copy it and send it to your friends!! Let me know what you think about it, I appreciate and welcome all feedback! Feel free to leave me a comment!! Remember...Together We CAN Make A Difference!! PEACE
For what its worth: 'gas' (diesel) prices have reached the equivalent of just over $10 per imperial gallon in Britain, 12th May 2008. I'll keep you updated on this blog every month. It goes up by approximately 8 pence per gallon per month. There are NO alternative fuels being marketed. The result is soaring food prices due to massive transportation costs & chemical fertilizer production costs. Infact any product derived from petro-chemicals is rapidly becoming unaffordable for the people on the lowest incomes. I'll report back in one month. Simon.
