What Is This Place?

The Scissortail Social Space is a social center of sorts with a collective interest. It is an alternative space to any other in Oklahoma City and surives on donations alone. It runs on an entirely volunteer-basis by those involved, who are neither charity workers nor social workers, but people from the surrounding area and many from the neighborhoods in which the space resides. It exists with the interest that others will take use of the shared resources it provides, meet and converse, as well as become involved in the on-going discussion of it’s continued workings. It is run in the spirit of, but not limited to, mutual-aid and co-operation.

The Scissortail Social Space is a communally run space that hosts a variety of collectives, shared resources, meeting groups, events, workshops, and projects. It is somewhere for you to read, build, hangout and share meals, stories, interests without being asked to pay for anything. It is where one could rally support within their community and potentially bring neighbors closer than their physical juxtapositions. It’s a place to exist in some commonality with others and friends, perhaps with some alternative to the usual offerings from the state.

The Scissortail Social Space is an attempt for individuals to have a hand in both their meeting and working spaces. It’s something that celebrates the idea of staying critical of the world around and that which imposes upon those within it. It is where a common level could be found between people.

It is a place where we might meet and share something of our lives with one another.
