About me: What: OKGreenfest 2009
Where: River West Festival Park, Tulsa, Oklahoma
When: June 2009
The annual OKGreenfest is a music and arts festival that brings together music fans, artists, and environmental awareness. The festival is a great opportunity to not only entertain, but also educate and inform music fans on ways we can all become more “Green.” Space will be provided to showcase both local non-profits that focus on Greening issues. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to local greening efforts.
Why: At OKGreenfest, we are focusing our efforts on becoming green by implementing lots of small changes. We are committed to this effort by being a “carbon neutral” event. We plan to accomplish this goal by:
• Using biodiesel in every generator on festival grounds. This improves air quality by reducing carbon monoxide emissions, particulate matter emissions, and other carcinogens.
• Offering more organic, locally grown choices by backstage catering ops and food vendors, we require all food to be served on paper or compostable plates. We will also be encouraging hand-held food choices and requiring all food areas to use toxic-free cleansers.
• Recycling water bottles and drink cups.
• Using recycled paper from TP and food napkins to marketing materials. We will also be recycling cardboard and replacing paper hand towels with hand sanitizer.
•Purchasing carbon credits to offset the remaining carbon emissions.
