Ok_Ma are Younglee and Jake Sax both self confessed musical beat junkies for life. They met whilst playing as part of D'Nell at Manchester's Electric Chair, they shared the hotel room a few bottles of Jack Daniels....the Ok_Ma project was formed. The Ok_Ma ethos is captured in their DJ / Sax sets where you can here everything from classic funk to booty broken beats on dubplate, dancefloor jazz to tougher electronic latin vibes and everything in between, When Jake joined Young at his DJ gigs playing sax and flute over Young's beats a firm musical partnership was formed. They've played alongside many heavy hitters such as Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, Quantic, Coldcut, Herbaliser, DJ Vadim, The Scratch Perverts, Mixmaster Morris, DMX Crew etc etc
Ok_Ma have rocked gigs in Italy, Switzerland, Miami, Greece, Croatia, Ireland, Sweden and Spain..... there musical collection enables them to be able to drop uptempo beats to a packed dancefloor or more chilled vibes in intimate settings.
Younglee is resident European Dj for Google and has performed at many high profile European events for them including three years in a row at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, playing alongside Norman Jay to an audience that included Bono, the Queen of Jordan and many of the worlds elite!
Featuring various vocalists, this project is a a fusion of funk, soul, RnB and Afro / Funk rubs, global influence with a UK sound. With releases on London's R2 records, Liverpool's Sick Trumpet, Universal Vibes and Chicago's Still music and remixes for Arch_Type, Patchworks, Yellowtail, Jonny Miller, Choi, Tim Scott, Fred Wesley, Bernard Wright and featured on compilations from Philly, South Africa, Australia and Germany.
They have had support from heavy hitters such as Rainer Truby (Compost) Justin Unabomber / Elektrons, Blackbeard, Kev Beadle (Solar Radio), Alex Attias, Harris (RAW FUSION), Diesler (Tru Thoughts), J-Walk, Dom Servini (Wah Wah), Simbad (Raw Fusion), Kraak+Smaak (Jalpeno records), Andrew Ubiquity
2009 has started with a bang with a sell out gig at Cargo in Shoreditch / London for the infamous Wah Wah record label...... They rocked it out with a full 9 piece band.
The boys play and have played at most of London best venues such as 333, Turnmills, Fabric, Ministry of Sound, The Cross, Canvas, Chinawhites, Cafe de Paris, Cargo, Herbal and the like.
Their Saturday night residence 'Broken Souls' at the Bedroom Bar, Rivington St, Shoreditch, London packs in a full house of over 200 people each week and has done for the last 7 years...... surely one of London's longest weekly residencies.
