How long have you been making beats/producing?: I started in October 2006 and have been going strong ever since.
Who are your influences?: That's a hard question to answer given that there have been so many before me. Every producer from Gamble and Huff to the no name guy on myspace influence me. Everyone has a little something that you can gain inspiration from. Don't sleep on the no name guy!
What kind of equipment do you use?: I started off with Fruity Loops 6...that was fairly recent. From there I just started adding on equipment. I bought a little MIDI keyboard and a Maudio Trigger Finger. I wasn't satisfied with that so I bought a MPC1000 and a Stanton T60 turn table. I love the MPC. I just get into a different zone when I'm on that versus just using FL. I just added Reason 4 and Sampletank 2.5 XL to my arsenal, but I'm still trying to work them into the flow. Please believe that it will be on and poppin' when I get in the lab. Last but not least, of course, I use Pro Tools.
What's your method for making beats? : I don't know if I'm supposed to talk about that...that's kind of like proprietary stuff. I do sample though. I sample a lot. Since I haven't learned how to play the keys yet, I feel like I need to use what I can to make the beats. I don't just loop a sample though I try to "flip" it as people say. I add a little bass line and some synth to spice it up a little more.
What kind of beats do you like making?: I love hip hop. I make hip hop/rap beats all the time. Some of them can be used for an R&B artists, but I think emcees would find my beats more appealing than R&B artists. I'm not saying that I don't want to do R&B it's just not my strong suit right now.
Is there anything else that you would like to say?: Yes. In this age of technology there are multiple ways of doing things. You can make a beat on FL, Reason, Cubase, MPC, or whatever. It doesn't matter. If you're making hot beats, you're making hot beats and people can't argue with the result.
