Lead singer/guitar player Mattias started O-Kult as a solo project. Together with Ocean Chief drummer Tobias Larsson and producer Jörgen Thor he recorded the first demo. Jörgen played bass for the demo and was asked to join the band fulltime. Stefan Åberg was the next member to join. The idea from the start was for him to lay some keyboards for the demo, but the work he did had such a big impact for the O-Kult sound that he also was asked to join fulltime. Tobias Larsson was also asked to join which he did for a while but his lack of time made it impossible for him. The last member needed was now a drummer. Jörgens former band mate Andreas Westerlund joined the band in early 2007. As a full band with a demo recorded, O-Kult started to promote themselves and heavy rehearsals began. The respons for the demo was great and got rotation on various radio stations around the world. It also got very good reviews in magazines and on the internet.
With a whole bunch of new tunes written it was time for the first show on june 6th 2007. At an over-the-top crowded Pub Anchor, Stockholm, along with bands M.A.N. and Lillasyster, O-Kult had a huge success. Their musical mix of goth and cowboy guitars, accompanied by the wasteland look of the band, made them stand out among the other acts. More gigs followed together with M.A.N. and other acts. A new recording session also started the same month.
All band members are contributing to the material and they still hold on to the cowboy-goth sound. New gigs are being booked and there’s a lot going on for the band. In the August 2007 edition of Close Up Magazine, O-Kult was featured as best swedish band of the month.
