'His most beautiful and beguiling creature yet' (8/10) - Drowned In Sound
'This latest outing continues to chart the young Icelandic composer's ascendance. Highly recommended.' Album of the Week - Boomkat
'Is it pop or is it classic? Either way, this is about absolute beauty' (5/6) - Tonspion (DE)
'Still his music almost seems to be a bit too perfect' (9/10) - Soundmag (DE)
'Rare is the modern composer that edges above and makes classical music cool, yet Ólafur Arnalds does so with grace and simplicity. Arnalds is in many ways like contemporaries Kaada and Greenwood. His style classical music errs on austerity, yet has melodies complex and often paring strife and anxiety with a calming and soothing nature. In Found Songs, Arnalds has effortlessly and skillfully produced a timeless work of art.' - FensePost (US)

'Arnalds has released two indie symphonies of remarkable depth. Iceland's brightest young talent won't be out of the light for long!' – Rock Sound
'There is, in Ólafur Arnalds’s work, a certain elegance and fluidity that is very much his own. [...] a beautiful companion to Eulogy For Evolution. One can only wish Arnalds’s talent gets the recognition it deserves sooner rather than later.’ (4.4/5) – The Milk Factory
'For once, instruments don’t need to evolve in order to make a difference, this being Olafur’s major accomplishment – the bare simplicity of music in its wholeness becomes unrelenting. [...] From its inception to the very last second, Variations of Static explores basic human perceptions, the changing qualities of the most common sounds, and raw sensations, musically recreating scraps of an imaginary impressionist painting. Under the siege of strings, the world slowly becomes a skinless place, like a wide steppe safely pinned to the big bones of separation.' - The Silent Ballet
‘'His sweet-sour, melancholic music brings you to new heights and is way ahead of other albums in this genre!'’ (8.6/10) - Monitor (IS)

“In any event his debut sounds full of the reverence and awe normally reserved for God, or at least George Best or Sir Vivian Richards at the absolute peak of their powers.” - Brainwash (US)
'Iceland's best new export comes in the shape of Eulogy For Evolution!' – Clash Magazine
'With this impressive first album, Ólafur Arnalds is sure to gain a well deserved place amongst the new generation of classical composers' (4.6/5) – The Milk Factory

'A majestic debut album! Achingly beautiful classical indie from Iceland!' (7/10) – Rock Sound

With the critically acclaimed debut album 'Eulogy for Evolution' and follow-up EP 'Variations of Static' – both released on the cinematic music label Erased Tapes – under his belt, Icelandic neo-classical composer Ólafur Arnalds embarks on a brand new collection of tracks entitled 'Found Songs'. Each track from this series will be created and released within 24 hours and made exclusively available online as a free download on foundsongs.erasedtapes.com .
For the first time Ólafur will compose and release a track daily – an idea which he developed as a way to collate several lost and found musical sketches and ideas in a 'very challenging, but fun' series. From Monday April 13th, Arnalds will create a song a day, for 7 days – instantly making each track available and keeping his fans up to date on the artist’s Twitter account.
'Found Songs' will provide listeners with an intimate insight into the artists creative world. 'The songs will be different from what's on my albums, they will be short, mostly just made up from piano. Something to keep me going. Feel free to send me hatemail if I miss out a day!'
Follow Ólafur Arnalds on Twitter – and start collecting the 7 part series from Monday, April 13th! Drowned In Sound magazine will also be hosting the series so if you don't use Twitter, just check their site each day.

Breaking classical music out of the tweed jacket and loafers and putting it into a t-shirt and trainers
Ólafur Arnalds brings his unique classically inspired music to the clubs, warehouses, and festival stages
At only 21 years of age, Ólafur Arnalds is Iceland's latest export. Having already sold out The Barbican Hall in London, toured major European festivals and having opened for Sigur Rós on their most recent European tour, the future seems bright for this young, extraordinary talent.
The music of Ólafur Arnalds can only be described as achingly beautiful. He creates a world of delicate symphonic compositions.
His music scales the heights perfected by the romantics. Yet by mixing strings and piano with loops and edgy beats it remains equally engaging to the contemporary ear.
Succeeding in making the cross-over from classical to pop, Ólafur’s motivations are clear:
“The classical scene is kind of closed to people who haven't been studying music all their lives. I would like to bring my classical influence to the people who don't usually listen to this kind of music…open people's mind. Especially young people, who seem to be the biggest part of my audience...”
Minds have been opened at sold out concerts around the world. For the past year, Ólafur has been playing unique venues and festivals across Europe and North America delivering an oasis of calm in a frenzied world. Accompanied by a string quartet, Ólafur takes the audience on a dreamy, almost meditative, journey. The magical atmosphere he creates attracts an audience who wouldn't usually expect to find themselves at a concert including a string quartet and piano.
