About me:

Philosophical freedom is an illusion. In chess as in all other games, each move is loaded with the indefinite past of the universe. Only inspiration is in control, day and night: All in all, not every calculation is an analysis: a chess player, for instance, does the one very well without doing the other. - Baudelaire The real Napoleon (the killer) was a mediocre chess player. In Lenin's tomb on the Red Square, you will find a chessboard (is it the beginning of a game or one left unfinished?) and fishing floats. On the other hand (it is only fair to mention it), two great artistic innovators – Marcel Duchamp and Raymond Roussel – brought new solutions to chess problems. The game of chess is not enough of a game; it is too serious an entertainment – Montaigne. -Andre Breton Anarchists play by the rules norrie mAy-welby Those keen on mental gymnastics may be interested in Chess Club. Once a month there has been a friendly gathering of inner-city nerds, geeks and gimps (apparently the derisive term for "people who like thinking" changes every generation), socialising over this sport of the mind. Many of the players are from networks of non-capitalist or anti-capitalist activities, and this has been a valuable opportunity for people who may have only seen each at social justice demonstrations to meet in a more congenial setting. 7pm-0am They had to move recently from an anarchist warehouse that closed in Camperdown, met at "the Nunnery" in Newtown, the Abercrombie, Mori Gallery, and the hub. but from 7pm to midnight here on in our home is THE HUTCH- 12 Hutchinson Street, St Peters. A gold coin donation is welcomed, and bringing your own chess set is encouraged! Standards of playing vary, and everyone is welcome, and even if you get matched with one of the uber-geeks, you'll either have the opportunity to learn (painfully) from a master, or experience the thrill of a lucky win if they've had a beer too many!
