Sparked by a handful of acoustic four track demos, and some phone calls to old friends, Old College Try formed in May 2002--originally under the name Sequence--and began to play shows in/around NYC almost immediately.
In December, Old College Try began recording what would become their first CD/EP. Produced and engineered by the band, the four song debut was available at shows in May 2003 and by August, the initial pressing was sold out.
After playing together at about 30 regional shows, the decision was made to go into a studio with an experienced engineer to put together a proper recording. Almost exactly 2 years after the band's first practice, Old College Try went in to record six songs with engineer Martin Breeson.
A month and a half later, a chain of events would begin that would lead to the end of Old College Try. Matt left the band; musician and friend, Lauren Stockner, was brought in as a live acoustic guitar player for the remainder of that summer's shows. Laura, Steve & Eric continued to record, but after three shows as a trio, Laura left the band, and Old College Try called it quits.
After a 7 month delay, all four original members (Eric, Steve, Matt & Laura) returned to the studio to wrap up the recording, and they all got to sing together in the booth one last time. Sporadic mixing sessions yeilded poor results, and eventually the project was shelved. At some point in the future, the finished songs will see the light of day. Maybe.
Good Christ I miss you kids. For the love of everything holy, please please please finish the demo? The masses are hungry for the final recordings! The revolution will not be supersized!
