Old Knifey and the Cutthroats are not so much of a band, but a family.
Originally made up of three singer/songwriters, the Cutthroats appeal to listeners by featuring thick three harmony and country songs about drinking.
Old Knifey and the Cutthroats' primary instruments include two acoustic guitars and a keyboard, occassionally being joined by drums and bass. The Cutthroats have been able to make a name for themselves by playing a variety of off the wall gigs. From open mic nights at the coffee shop to Country Clubs, bowling alleys to brewpubs, the Cutthroats seem to fit the situation quite well.

I like this CD. Pinning a musical lean to it is tricky. Country, but more like Alt Country, and folky. But then, one of their influences is Journey, so ... And did I hear some Trip Shakespeare whimsy in there? It also kind of reminds me of first getting into Martin Devaney. - Duluth News Tribune Area Voices
To be sure, the acoustic trio's winning CD debut, Old Knifey and the Cutthroats, is distinctly original...The heartfelt vocals are sound: sardonic phrasing, tight harmonies.

Old Knifey and the Cutthroats are a Duluth acoustic folk trio whose new debut album reminds me of the homespun charms of Mark Olson's old Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers discs. And the band seems more ambitious than many Duluth acts — they even played a CD-release show in my hometown of Cloquet! - St. Paul's Pioneer Press
This band of brothers cleans up nicely. As much as these three friends’ material stems from mid-20s shenanigans, the end result is a showcase of mature songwriting unrivalled by many musicians twice their age. - Budgeteer News, Duluth

Yeah, we are working on a new Spencer album with full instrumentation and everything. It's been a long time coming, but we finished recording vocals last week and are going to be mixing soon. Will be exciting to have it done!
Hey great tunes, guys! Harmonies sound awesome, and it's great to hear your new songs, Adam. You've definitely kicked it up several notches. I love "Cigarettes, Whiskey and Country Music."
