"From Brooklyn, New York, comes the very talented MEDICINE MAN, with two very interesting records on offer. The music is difficult to describe; it ranges from dark alternative roots rock and freak-folk to more experimental pieces delving one time even into free-jazz/free-form-rock (on the opening track ("For other Brothers") of the 2nd album, before gliding into deep shining space). Most of the songs are in a more reflective, or even dark mood, and occasionally there are some space psych moments to be found. Comparisons: hmmm..., Jeff Buckley, maybe a more folk based Nick Cave or perhaps the more hypnotic pieces of Gun Club." -Homemade LoFi Psych .. .. .. "The more you listen to "Forever Brother", you're getting deeper in a warm 60s feeling, that breaths in these tunes. I won't go into track-to-track review, but from the first few listens I found the opening instrumental 'For Other Brothers' and the two closing tracks 'Lion Hunt' and "Forever Brother' outstanding, though I'm sure that there are more future favorite tracks in it." -Lost In Tyme .. .. .. ...Dylan Ewing in his fascinating new project, Medicine Man, which is out on a short Midwest tour. Medicine Man is a cool amalgam of Jazz and Space Rock, floating in the Bermuda Triangle of The Doors, Jeff Buckley and Spiritualized. Occasional references to psychedelic Americana bubble to the surface, but Medicine Man gets its kicks in a decidedly Alt Jazz vein, as evidenced by their show-closing cover of an Alice Coltrane cut. .. .. Medicine Man smolders and chills simultaneously; Ewing's guitar work is spidery and haunting, reminiscent of the likes of Marc Ribot and Gary Lucas, keyboardist Trevor Oswalt is a marvel, shifting from mad runs to moody atmospherics on a dime, drummer Even Lytton defines the term "polyrhythmic" and Brian Frey provides a perfect foil for him in the rhythm section, bringing a guitarist's mindset to his bass position. Don't miss Medicine Man the next time they blow through town. -Brian Baker, CityBeat (Cincinnati) .. .. ....This profile was edited with ..MySpace Profile Editor......MySpace....Profile Editor.... -
