About old sand mountain recordings

The old Sand Mountain field recording project started in 1998 as an effort to document the music and history of the elder generation of Sand Mountain musicians. Sand Mountain musicians recorded include - Cast King, Jess Moore, Wayne Heard, Lloyd Heidt, Gene Ivey, Fred Daly and Chester Lacy. 3 albums of the field recordings are available - Cast King "Saw Mill Man" - available through Locust Music (chicago). Jess Moore "Walking Up Sand Mountain" featuring fiddle tunes and interview with Jess Moore (1911-2005) recorded at his home. Wayne Heard "Gray Mule, Brown Mare" featuring Wayne Heard (1925-present) on Dobro, guitar and vocals. Contact Matt Downer for more info.
