Influences
Old Time Fiddle music by the likes of Gordon Stobbe, Keith Wilson, Don Messer, Ned Landry, Calvin Vollrath, Andy de Jarlis, Leonard T. Sexsmith... Their main influence, -to be specific, is Canadian Old Time and Celtic Fiddle Music.
"Face Of Abbotsford" (Their Face castings are displayed in CCMA (Abbotsford Art and Culture Center as they are chosen to represent the city.) One of the best fiddle duo. The only young fiddle group winning most of North America fiddle contests
OTFK play for weddings, festivals, Celtc events, radios, movies and anywhere you need music. Their first CD is on sale for $15( Top Bluegrass plays on unsigned.com, and the second CD is on the way.
Being Grand North America and BC champions, winning and performing from west coast to east coast in North America, this young music and step dance group had been featured on CBC radio and in many local newspapers. They are young but their expertise in old time and traditional music make them one of the top and most popular music group. In 2008, They became a "Face of Abbotsford", whose face castings are displayed in Abbitsford Art and Culture Centet (CCMA) to represent Abbotsford art and culture. In 2007, They had been chosen from about 400 string players to represent the Vancouver Youth Symphony to play in a celtic event. Both of these young fiddlers are classical violin prodigies, they also play piano and Lia is an accomplished cellist. They also compose their own music since they were 7. From Celtic, country, jazz and classical music to step dance, Kai and Lia have been performing as the “Old Time Fiddle Kids” for a few years now. They are invited to distribute their talent to many festivals and gathering and are always a hit. Venues that they played repeatedly including Kids' Help Phone, Spirit of Sea Festival, HSBC Childrun for BC Children Hospital, Langley International Festival, Cranberry Festival, Organic Island Festival, Steveston Salmon Festival, Port Alberni Salmon Festival, Berry Beat Festival, Nibbles and Bites Festival, Abbotsford Farmers Market, Abbotsford City Plan A, Canada Day parade float live performer celebration, Lantern Festival, Spirit of BC day, MSA Museum Family Fun Day, BC Agriculture Gala Country Fair Coffee and BC Poultry Bus Tour events and several Chinese fuction. To them playing fiddle is a break from learning classical. Both started learning classical music at age 4 but soon discovered the fiddle and start tp perform at 5. They are scholarship winners and judge of North Poplar Idol. Kai and Lia have taken lessons from teachers like fiddle master Calvin Vollrath, Keith Wilson, Canada's fiddler of the year- Mike Sanyshyn, Canadian Grand Master winner's Mark Sullivan and Patti Lamoureux, and the Sabir Sisters. They have won many BC provincial and North American Fiddle contests. Some of the adjudicators praise them as the “musical kids”. Kai & Lia are active members of the Central Fraser Valley Fiddlers. So far they are the two youngest members of the club. On the other hand, Kai started to play classical in the Youth Symphony at age 7. Lia also joined the Symphony to play violin and cello at same age. She had just learned to play cello less than a year when she was accepted. Lia likes to play jazz and other type of music on her cello and other instruments too. And she likes her instruments so much that she called them her babies. Their first CD "The Fox and The Fiddle" just came out January, 2007, with illustarion and story by themselves. And Kai's first composition is also published in this CD. If you'd like help Kai & Lia to end the financial struggle and go on perfessional music career or ask them to perform at your function please contact us We also like to perform voluntarily for charity and community events.
