JEREMY PENNER….................................................................................... Jeremy Penner developed his unique style, incorporating jazz, old time, bluegrass, Celtic, and Cajun music, in the rich musical community of Winnipeg. In 1995, Jeremy helped form Scruj MacDuhk, later joined by Oliver Swain. Releasing their Juno-nominated album, “The Road to Canso”, Scruj MacDuhk toured internationally before parting ways in 2001. Jeremy then relocated to Montreal, beginning a fresh musical journey. Collaborating with two former members of Scruj, Jeremy formed “Moody Penner and Swain” with Oliver Swain and Ruth Moody, releasing “South Bound” in early 2003. From 2003-2005, Jeremy played with the Juno-nominated group, “The Bills”, again touring extensively in N. America and Europe with the band. Further developing his talents, Jeremy left the band to study jazz and bluegrass with Casey Driessen (Nashville), Matt Glaser (Boston), and Stephane Allard (Montreal) through a Canada Council for the Arts grant. After studying for a year, Jeremy relocated again, this time to Vancouver, BC, where he began playing and touring with the Juno award winning, “The Wailin’ Jennys”, as well as with old friends, “The Bills”. Now back in Winnipeg, having come full circle, Jeremy is excited to be collaborating once again with his band mate and friend Oliver Swain ........................................................................................................................ OLIVER SWAIN …........................................................................................... Oliver Swain is larger than life. Though he is over 6 feet tall and plays an upright bass, its not just his stature that supports this claim. His infectious spirit, intense emotion and technical prowess combine to effectively draw in audiences. Centered around the upright bass and his pure, wide ranged vocals, with a little open backed banjo added for flavor, Oliver stands out in any musical arrangement. Oliver enjoyed group success with his band Outlaw Social through summer 2008, with appearances at Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton Folk Festivals, and teaching at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, topping it all off with a WCMA Oustanding Roots Group nomination. A two time Prairie Music Award recipient and a Juno nominee, Oliver has performed alongside good friend Jeremy Penner with Casey Driessen (Nashville), Matt Glaser (Boston), and Stephane Allard (Montreal) through a Canada Council for the Arts grant. After studying for a year, Jeremy relocated again, this time to Vancouver, BC, where he began playing and touring with the Juno award winning, “The Wailin’ Jennys”, as well as with old friends, “The Bills”. Now back in Winnipeg, having come full circle, Jeremy is excited to be collaborating once again with his band mate and friend Oliver Swain. The Bills and Scruj MacDuhk, in addition to The Red Stick Ramblers, his own solo work, and supporting such artists as Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall, Toni Childs, and Marc Savoy. A Victoria BC native, Oliver gained experience and perspective through relocating his career to Winnipeg and Louisiana, before returning home to BC. Unpredictable and constantly evolving, Oliver Swain is a soul you won’t want to miss in performance
