"His sound is ancient and futuristic, rustic and freshly burnished by time, whimsical and mythic. He catches us in the web of his commanding virtuosity"

New recordings:
Catriona McKay & Olov Johansson: Foogy
We met for the first time in Stockholm 2002 to share a concert with our bands, Väsen from Sweden and Shetland based Fiddlers’ Bid.
Backstage before the concert Catriona asked Olov “Do you know this one?” and played Eric Sahlström’s Spelmansglädje, the most played Nyckelharpa tune ever!
We both really enjoyed the sound and the music we made together and that created a desire to further develop this collaboration.
We didn’t get a chance to do so until a few years ago at the Celtic Connections ‘07 concert Fiddlers’ Bid International. Since then we have met regularly and after a very fun tour in Sweden 2008 we decided to make this recording.
Come and join us on our exploration of traditional and new music from Scotland and Sweden, meet our way of making music and experience the sound of Scottish Harp and Swedish Nyckelharpa. Welcome to Foogy!

About "I lust och glöd" - Drone Music:
This music and these instruments aroused my interest when I was 14 years old, and I have been sold ever since. Although I compose new music and play in all sorts of contexts, I always return with passion, enthusiasm and with many new influences to the traditional tunes and catchy playing that my early heroes cultivated. When I started to think about this, my second solo recording, I decided at an early stage to record it at home in my own music room. It is in it's own little house and goes by the name "Torpet".
I have invited some of my friends in and we have recorded tunes we like playing together. Playing melody and second part/accompaniement as a duo, where just two people make all the music is an enjoyable and free way of playing together that suits me very well. My friends on this recording are: Mikael Marin Viola, Kalle Almlöf Fiddle, Markus Svensson Nyckelharpa and Catriona McKay Scottish Harp.

As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Just want to let you know that a selection of your music was included on a recent edition of Multe Music -- a weekly audio show exploring the roots, shoots and fruits of Scandinavian and Nordic traditions. Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Ja, det brukar gå några år imellan.. Rätt som det är så är vi pensionärer och har inte spelat en enda vals sen 92, det är för synd :-)Nästa gång bjuder jag upp.
