The mission of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is to empower the children of developing countries to learn by providing one connected laptop to every school-age child. The XO laptop is the size of a textbook and weighs about three pounds. Everything is scaled to fit a child, from the integrated handle to the sealed, rubberized keyboard.

In 2002, MIT Professor Nicholas Negroponte experienced first-hand how connected laptops transformed the lives of children and their families in a remote Cambodian village. A seed was planted: If every child in the world had access to a computer, what potential could be unlocked? What problems could be solved? These questions eventually led to the foundation of One Laptop per Child, and the creation of the XO laptop.

In order for OLPC to have a maximum impact, it is essential every child within a given community has their own laptop. One way to make this happen is to work with local governments and organizations who will distribute large numbers of laptops at a time. Currently, the countries participating are Uruguay, Cambodia, Rwanda, Haiti, Ethiopia, Mongolia and Peru. Give One Get One laptops will go specifically to Rwanda, Haiti, Cambodia and Mongolia.

Contributions large and small are greatly appreciated and will be used to support learning innovations throughout the lesser developed world. A contribution of $200 will send an XO laptop to a deserving child in a country such as Afghanistan, Cambodia, Haiti and Rwanda. There are also ways to volunteer your time and expertise to the work of OLPC.
