Following the demise of the experimental black metal band Talos and Omaha's first folk metal band, Loch Ness, Dissenter was formed with the intent of creating raw, unrelenting, alcohol-induced, & testosterone-driven thrash metal. The concept in itself, fully realized in September 2008, seperates Dissenter from its fellow local metal brethren and the music created further isolates the band, which allows the musicianship and collaboration between the members to remain unique.
After years of shows and multiple recording sessions, Talos ended in January 2008, leaving guitarist and vocalist, Matt, and bassist Rob without a creative output. Immediately dismissing the notion of resigning in innactivity, Matt became the vocalist and guitarist for local band, Loch Ness. The two also created the backbone that was to become Dissenter. Discussions about numerous black/death metal drummers and guitarists followed during the Spring and Summer of 2008.
While Talos was internally failing in Winter of 2007, Loch Ness remained a strong entity in metal music. The band also had numerous recording sessions and a nearly unbelievable amount of shows to boast along with their brand of folk-metal. However, the relationship between the members began to slowly erode and in Fall of 2008, Loch Ness would remain nothing but a pleasing memory.
With both bands being inactive, Loch Ness drummer, Billy, was approached to become the drummer for Dissenter, an offer he accepted due to his appreciation for all things metal. Following a few eventual dead-ends to fill a lead guitarist position, the band discovered Jared, who seemed to transition into Dissenter with a flawless approach.
Dissenter's first EP entitled 'Weapons of Mass Seduction' was recorded in June 2009 and is currently being mastered. The band is eager to make a mark in metal music and bring its uncompromising brand of thrash metal to those who have an interest.
