A musician of varied and broad international experience, Omar García performs frequently throughout the Northeast Ohio area. A veteran with many years of musical training on the piano and percussion, Mr. García began playing the guitar at the age of 12. At the age of 16, he began to dedicate himself to the classical guitar, and received his B.M. in Classical Guitar (Performance) from the University of Akron. He later went on to receive his M.M. in Music Technology from the University of Akron, as well. His rapid progress on the guitar was furthered by the guidance of teachers such as Stephen Aron and James Marron of Akron and Loris Chobanian at Baldwin-Wallace. While in graduate school, Omar added jazz guitar to his diverse palette of styles, studying with Dean Newton, and participating in Jack Shantz’s Jazz Studio. Whether playing in a traditional Jazz combo, a rock band, or a solo guitar setting, Mr. García is comfortable performing in a variety of musical settings. He has performed at Firestone Country Club, Akron Public Library, John S. Knight Center, Jimmy’s Café, Arabica Coffee House, as well as numerous wedding and social engagements. In his free time, Omar enjoys composing and recording original music, and also teaches guitar lessons at Belden Village Music in Canton, Ohio.
