Who are Omerta?
Omerta are a Manchester based four-piece comprising:
Aaron Starkie: Vocals & Sequencing
Nick Moylan: Guitar & Backing Vocals.
James Ryan: Bass.
Neil Turvin: Drums.
Omerta combine synths, strings, bleeps and beeps, cutting guitar and a solid rhythm section to create music that engages both melodically and lyrically delivered by a "heart wrenching" vocal. Their sound has drawn comparisons with Radiohead and The Killers amongst others.
Following the success of their first two limited independent singles, the slick Manchester outfit are now all set for the release of their much anticipated third single, the air-punching anthem One More Minute (released October 30th), which looks set to cement Omerta's reputation as one of the most promising new bands in the UK.
Omerta were formed in 2004 and have been gathering a growing cult following ever since with their unique brand of electronic, theatrical indie-rock. With such Luminaries as
Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music),
Claire Sturgess (XFM London),
Steve Harris (Virgin Music),
Clint Boon (XFM Manchester)
and Mani (Stone Roses / Primal Scream / RevolutionOnline)
championing them from the outset, the band have enjoyed widespread critical acclaim, including coverage from
The Fly,
Drowned in Sound, Sky Sports and
ManchesterMusic
amongst many others.
Their first independent single, Everyone is Frozen sold out in only one day, as did their second independent single, One Chance, the latter scoring the band an Indie Top 20 Hit - both releases earning Omerta the accolade of
Piccadilly Records
No. 1 independent band of 2005. Since then, these sought after singles have been selling on eBay at up to 10 times their original value. Now the latest offering from the Manchester outfit looks set to repeat that feat!
One More Minute continues along Omerta's path of allying 21st Century angst and frustrations to an upbeat, rollocking tune. A very modern track, brimming with confidence and tasty lyrics, the track seems set to take the boys out of the indie pretenders circuit and into wider music circles.
Continuing Omerta's policy of supplying quality B-sides, Follow Me Down is a lo-slung, poignant, theatrical indie-rock epic which rises elegantly from the most delicate of guitar lines. Also added onto this package, is a third bonus track, the electro pulsating live favourite, Isolated.
Prominent support slots with Hard-Fi, Little Man Tate and Boy Kill Boy have proved the band can easily mix-it-up with signed acts, and as a result of numerous gigs at top-notch indie destinations such as
Blowout!,
High Voltage, Club Fandango
and
Club NME, Omerta have announced the dates and venues of their first national tour, set for October and November 2006 (tour dates below).
Having parted company with their management earlier this year and with news that the band have also turned down a six figure record deal, 2006 has been a very interesting period at Omerta HQ. With the release of One More Minute in October, it seems that the Omerta engine is well oiled and in gear, waiting to embark on the next part of their journey.
