A native of Detroit, MI, Misha McGlown attended Wayne State University and Center for Creative Studies (CCS). She has become best known for her jewelry collection, which was recently featured on HGTV and is available at the Studio Museum in Harlem. The name Omo Misha - which means Misha's children in Yoruba - has come to identify the artist and her myriad creative endeavors.
Misha started painting in high school and resumed the art form in 2006. She has since exhibited throughout the New York area, including group events with artHARLEM and HOAST (Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour), as well as her first solo exhibit, presented by Columbia University. Misha is currently developing a portrait series made possible in part by the Puffin Foundation.
In addition to art and jewelry, Misha is the author of Manifesting Things and publisher of The Omo Misha Times – a web ‘zine covering art, fashion, politics, fun and social consciousness. She presently works as a visual arts educator, on a freelance/consultancy basis, for Symphony Space, The Children's Art Carnival, and Groundswell Mural Art Project in New York. She has also worked for Arts Horizons and PACT in New Jersey, and was Lead Artist Residency for Artist's Collective for Social Change (NJ), and The Congreso Girls' Center (Philadelphia).
