review from CityLife:
onara was never imagined as an industrial rock act, or a punk band, or a metal outfit. A dabbling in ska or funk, pop, dance or even cumbia allows onara to sidestep the dreaded pigeonhole and become something larger than any single genre can contain. Whatever sound fits the song is fair game. A reviewer for Las Vegas Weekly called onara’s first album “one of the most manic CDs ever recorded.” With the release of its second album, onara has created an even more eclectic collection of songs that may well prove to live up to its title, “Too Big to Fail.”
onara began in a Rhode Island basement around 2004 (estimated) and has seen many incarnations, and has at one time or another included a DJ, multiple guitarists, a keyboardist, and perhaps dozens of different singers and drummers. Three founding members (of which only Rob Iafrate remains) moved to Pahrump, Nevada, just west of Las Vegas sometime in 2005 or 2006. After about a year or so of performing in Vegas as an instrumental trio, the founders met singer Ron Ferraro, who had recently moved to Pahrump from Hawaii. As is often the case with bands, however, musicians came and went, and onara changed several times in just a short period, until the very solid current line-up was established with Rob, Ron, Randy and Sammy D. The music has evolved considerably under the many personnel changes, and with so many influences contributing to its growth, onara defies easy classification into any one genre. Instead, it defines itself simply underneath the very large umbrella of the rock super-genre.
