Movies
A couple of videos filmed by Kaz at onebigwellingtonboot nights:
About me: One Big Wellington Boot is a small collective of dedicated people who put on independent gigs in the Lincoln area. If you come to our gigs, you can expect good and interesting music for as little cost as possible. Depending on how rich we're feeling at the time, bands might also look forward to cheap european booze, food and also, regardless of our current fiscal situation, our wonderfully comfortable floorspace. The posters are done by either the lovely Sal or the lovely Lewis or the lovely Graham. Usually. But not always. Our good friend James usually acts out the DJ role to celestial standard. He runs a record store called Select Sounds, which is down the High Street (just next to Dixon Street). Check it out, Lincoln.
If you want to get in touch with us without using the bastion of culture that is myspace, your best bet is probably onebigwellingtonboot[at]hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk [although sometimes that goes for a week or more without being checked so myspace is good if it's urgent.]
NO MORE GIGS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR. WE GOT OTHER SHIT TO DO. SO, IF YOU'RE A BAND THAT WANTS GIGS; DON'T SEND US MESSAGES BECAUSE THEY'LL JUST GET DELETED, AND PROBABLY PISS US OFF A LITTLE BECAUSE IT MEANS YOU DIDN'T BOTHER READING THIS PAGE, WHICH MEANS YOU JUST WANT ANY OLD SHOW, WHICH IS COOL, BUT IT'S NOT WHAT WE WANT.
WE'LL BE BACK BUT UNTIL THEN, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO FIND US AT OTHER SHOWS IN LINCOLN (BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME SWEET PROMOTERS AROUND THIS CITY) AND BEYOND.
PEACE XX

xNoBBQx Skewer 10" LP (Ltd to 300 copies) - Out May 12th
We first came across xNoBBQx (just call them No Barbeque, I guess) in Piccadilly Records last year when the Siltbreeze vinyl reissue of their first CD-r appeared on its shelves. The Siltbreeze label being a bastion of all that is great in terms of dirgy, lo-fi, transcendental unmusicality, we were thus intrigued to hear this slab. And, we have to say, it was one of the greatest shop-listening experiences of all time. Here was a duo, probably of fully grown men, bashing away at their instruments in a manner that suggested they had never really learned any 'proper' technique. We later read a review, in fact, that put it thus:
"So what exactly is the difference between an xNoBBQx recording and a couple of 14 year olds bashing instruments in the garage with record pressed down on one of their mum’s old tape recorders? Probably not a whole lot, actually, but I get the feeling that’s precisely the point. " (Cyclic Defrost)
Well, yes, that does largely seem to be the point. But it's a helluva point. The Australian duo, in spite of their unabashed simplicity, manage to create sounds that are warm as an old-fashioned blanket, each piece having the ability to induce a state of complete, dribbling mental stasis. It's disjointed, scratchy and 'difficult', yes. But it also manages to be completely absorbing. If you like your rock deconstructed to the nth degree, we highly recommend you dig this.
xNoBBQx will be touring the UK from 10th May 2009. We'll be putting them on in Manchester on 12th May (venue TBC), so keep yr eyes on this page.
Yeah, I headed back home for August and hit 4 festivals. Fantastic stuff. Looking forward to getting up to this show, not been to the Turks Head yet! You coming down to Camera Obscura on the 19th @ Drill Hall?

Why? Why!?!? Why put The Retro Spankees on a night we're playing too? I've not seen them for a couple of years so may well dash across the Brayford to catch their set. Looking forward to it, Tom.
