About me:
We are people inspired by love. We believe that loving our neighbor means to become one with them, with communities, and with nations. In humility we are coming together to instill hope, justice, and peace in a broken world. We are a catalyst and a voice for informing, networking, and motivating individuals and communities to respond to issues concerning faith, culture, and social justice. Understanding that love is what drives the commitment of participating in the greater community, we are confident that the powerful expression of unity will be a transforming force in our world that has yet to be seen.

"My prayer for all of them is that they will be one, just as you and I are one, Father; that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me" - John 17: 21.......

Global Refuge International (GRI)

Serve in a variety of roles in IDP camps in northern Uganda alongside the full-time GRI team. Share the love of Christ with victims of a 20-year war through medical clinics and various outreaches. Medical and non-medical workers needed.

THE WELCOME PROGRAM

Are you intrigued by other cultures you see in public? Do you often wonder what it would be like to see how they live in America? Have you thought "maybe they don't know Jesus?" GRI has been working with refugees right here in Denver for about six years now. We call this the Welcome Program, and we need your help!

We are mainly involved with Burmese (the Karen people) and Somali refugees. A volunteer working in this program would have a chance to serve in various ways on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. The purpose of this program is to see volunteers become a part of a refugee family's life, being their link to our culture, language, and religion. These families have to adjust to American food, American transportation, and the most obvious issue, English - the not-so-easy-to-learn American language!

If you would like more information about this program, contact Nicole Hollis at nicole@globalrefuge.org or www.globalrefuge.org

HEAVEN FEST

Interview with Dave Powers, Director of Heaven Fest and founder of Worship and the Word Movement.

Dave Powers is about doing what's "Hot" in the eyes of God. Being in God's presence and praying about how he can be a part of what God is doing. Dave says he's miles away, but striving to be "Hot" in the eyes of God. Dave tells me: "In Psalms it says God beautifies the humble. He beautifies them, makes them "Hot", and it's the humility that is hot to God."

Dave is 26, and I think well on his way to hotness; at least further than I. I managed to catch him between a trip to Africa, his wife Tara, a sick 3 year old child, and a U.S. worship tour, to talk to him about the upcoming music festival, Heaven Fest.

What is Heaven Fest?

image"It's an event with 70 bands, 7 stages, for one day. Our hope is that Heaven Fest will be a catalyst for revival. The hope is that Gods fire would burn in an uncontrollable way. That it would be something God is doing, that not anyone can contribute to anyone else. When brushing my teeth one morning I heard God say: 'Ask Luke to bring Heaven Fest under your ministry' Luke is a long time best friend of mine, and someone who has had a passion to put together a Christian music festival in Denver. Luke had already formed a business to host Heaven Fest and I asked him to dissolve his business and submit to the leadership of Worship and the Word Movement. At the time it seemed very unlikely, but then soon after Luke said yes 'this is the Lord'. All of a sudden we were taking on a music festival that would cost $200,000 for one day! This is bigger than any project I ever thought he would be undertaking."

"In the last couple of months people have given over $90,000 dollars to the event. Everyday on the project God has been clear to remind me that He is the senior executive of the project and I'm the junior executive and that it is not my job to be creative, but to be obedient."

In light of all the Christian music festivals we can possibly go to this summer, how is Heaven Fest different from any other music/worship festival?

"One of the interesting things about this festival is that I have never aspired to put on a music festival. My heart has always been to have the presence of God show up, to affect people, and stir people up."

This is a direct reflection of Worship and the Word's support driven status. No one at WWM receives a salary. They are all individually supported missionaries. Dave and Tara's primary ministry has been to travel to gatherings, churches, and camps to provide their services of leading worship for free. Dave says:

"I don't want to milk the Christian community for money and give them an emotional experience. My heart is to put together a festival that sets its self apart from the rest. God spoke to Tara and I one night in prayer, 'Would you just let me talk to my people? It's always so loud and scripted, would you just let me talk to my people?' Then we got a picture of God walking through the crowd putting His hands on people and setting them free."

image

Dave understands business and knows that to get people to an event you need to have an attraction. Soon he found himself overwhelmed with extremely high costs to host popular Christian artists at Heaven Fest. In the moment of being overwhelmed by these costs, Dave says:

"God spoke to me 'So you are paying a lot money to get these people here...? But how are you going to get me there? I don't come for money. So how are going to get me there?' I had no idea. At so many concerts and festivals people aren't gathered in God's name, they are gathered in an artists name. Basically I realized that I would have to pray the price. I would spend the majority of my time in prayer. God's dream for the day of Heaven Fest is to put Him in a place of honor, to put His name above every name, ministry and artist. At 8:00 pm, for the main event, everything will shut down. No light show, no fog machines, and no video. Everyone will gather at the main stage for the main event, where a nameless, faceless worship band will take the stage. My hope is that people will say 'Whoa! There are 80 people up on that stage worshiping and praying. What is going on?' So that when God comes there is nothing extra there that anyone can contribute it to."

I know that you have some compelling stories about how this festival has come together; can you share some key instances were God has intervened to provide for Heaven Fest?

"I've done tones of events in my flesh. Asking God to bless. 'God come over here! Bless this! It's for you! I don't know if I have ever been a part of to many things where God is like: 'Dave I am inviting you in to what I'm doing. I was going to do this weather you are in involved or not'"

Dave has experienced the blessing of being in the middle of God's plans in many ways through the past couple months from business owners donating their time and resources to people giving more money than he could have imagined. One exceptional story is Dave's struggle to secure the main stage for Heaven Fest. Dave had done some shopping and found a modest main stage for $10,000 to rent for one day, but figured that the stage might not be big enough, so found another stage up in Canada that costs $30,000 for one day. Overwhelmed by the expense of the stage he decided to sit on the decision and prayed to God:

"I said 'I'm not spending one cent of your money until you tell me, and I know that I know what to do with it.' Then I forgot about it and moved on to other things. One morning while working out I heard God say: 'Take off your head phones, I want to talk to you.' Then a picture of the small stage flashed into my mind, and immediately after a picture of the big stage flashed in my mind and God said: 'I want you to get the big one. I'm going to come that day. I want you to believe me that I will fill it to capacity and I am coming for My glory, not for you.' This moment wrapped up a ton of meaning for me; the fact that God is coming for Himself not for me. He is not coming to give me a pat on the back and congratulate me for doing a good job, but that I am a part of something God is doing. Then I blew up in tears, because what I want most is for God to show up. The next day I met with the stage company and they said 'It just happens that the only three days that the stage is available are the three days that you need it and, by the way, it is already going to be in Denver.' So that saves us $10,000 in transportation fees! That's pretty amazing!"

Dave is there anything you would like to tell people that I didn't cover?

"Just come and seek the Lord with me! ...Pay the ticket or don't pay the ticket. I don't care!"

Dave is not just trying to invite you to his concert. His concern isn't to convince you to talk to your friends and church into buying the $29.00 ticket to seek the Lord. This is not the point. The ticket is even flexible to what you can afford. No one is exempt from the event because of money. He just wants you to come seek the Lord with him. The goal is that you would come with a kingdom mindset, that you would invest in prayer for the event and for the city before hand, and that you would come partner with God and be a part of His dream. So that together we can move with one mind and spirit in seeking God together.

Cardboard Camp-Out: One Last Question With Dave Powers

What is the Cardboard Camp-out for the homeless?

"The hope is to gather about 500 people to give $100 each to then give a $50,000 check to Mayor Hickinlooper's Road Home Campaign: To help the homeless in Denver."

"One day while in prayer God asked Tara and I how we are going to serve the poor in the city of Denver - how we could be a voice. I had no idea how to do this. Then God said 'Well look around at what I'm already doing in the community' When I began to search around I found the Denver Road Home Campaign, Mayor Hickenlooper's initiative that is a 10 year plan to eliminate homelessness in Denver. We were blown away and encouraged. So Dave looked into how they could be involved. While in prayer the idea came to mind to have a pre-event to Heaven Fest where 500 people would give $100, camp out, pray, and fast under the stars for the homeless of Denver. I first thought was that we would give the money raised to the Denver Rescue Mission, but then God illuminated to me that He wanted it to go directly to the Road Home Campaign. Then it hit me sometimes in the Christian community in America there is a "Good Old Boy" mentality that says we should keep the cash in the family. But that really inhibits us to being a light in the community and being a part of what God is doing outside the Christian circle. For example, I don't know if the Mayor is a Christian, but he is doing something that is on God's heart. He is taking care of the homeless in Denver. And now 30 other cities around the nation are taking the same approach. That's Hot, that's God."

Right now there is 100 people signed up. So there is time and room for you to be involved.

The Cardboard Campout for the homeless is an all night 12 hour experience to raise money and awareness for the Homeless of Denver and to immerse its participants into what the world of a homeless person is like for one night.

The Cardboard Campout works kind of like a charity race in the sense that the Campout's participants will approach their friends, family, people at their church, and businesses to ask them for donations. In exchange, the participants will agree to fast, pray and sleep outside all night on a piece of cardboard.

This is not going to be easy.
This will not be comfortable.
We dare you to come and take part.

When: Friday, July 25th, 2008 from 8PM - 8AM
Where: The Location of Heaven Fest @ Northern Hills Christian Church 5061 E. 160th Ave. Brighton, CO 80602

There will be a limited number of people that we will accept to participate. We recommend that you register as soon as possible to be guaranteed a space at this event.

Register at: www.cardboardcampout.com
All proceeds will go to benefit Denver Mayor Hickenlooper's Campaign "Denver's Road Home".

This THURSDAY 12/11!

Join me and a live jazz band as we premiere songs from my new CD, “A Safe Place”

9pm @ Dazzle. $5 cover. Confirmed guest appearances by Justin Croft from Hearts of Palm, Bianca Mikahn, and Kenny G!

(Although, honestly, Kenny G has never shown up to anything I’ve invited him to)

=)

So come on out, and let’s make the world a better place through music.

Cheers.

World Peace Before 2021

Jun 3 2008 10:47 PM

Dear One Denver: Thank you for YourFriendship. My eight-year-old-peace-activist son Axil's quest for World Peace Before 2021 is gaining momentum! I'm so proud of him. Please embrace him AND his song "World Peace Before 2021" which he sings beautifully. His performance can be seen on MySpace, his webpage www. worldpeacebefore2021. com and/or YouTube (by searching his name Axil Kollist.) It is my intention to post a new video of him singing his song every few months so people can watch his talent grow as impressively as the momentum for his quest! I'm sharing two photos with you. The first is of my son distributing his free world peace bumperstickers and the second photo is of him singing his song “World Peace Before 2021” at Maui's Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Day Festivities in January 08. By all means, email Axil if you’d like him to mail you one of his free “World Peace Before 2021” bumperstickers or if you’d like to invite him to sing for your function. His email address is worldpeacebefore2021@hawaii.rr.com .Very best regards, Axil Kollist’s mom

Hey, about 85 students, leaders and alumni from the Horizon School of Evangelism are heading from San diego to D.C. and back. they left last weds. and have already spent a day in Dallas helping with the Special Olympics.
I highly encourage you to check out their blog and pray for them
www. loveoutloudtour. com
if you are anywhere in their area you should jump on the bandwagon and come alongside an awesome group of people. Or if you have ideas in ways they could help out your area let them know! there are e-mails in the get involved section.
May God move our country to repentance!!!

HELP END SLAVERY! Did you know about 3 million people are trafficked every year into countries all over the world? That's a person every minute! They are taken against their will, bought, sold and transported into slavery for sexual exploitation, sweat shops, child brides, circuses, sacrificial worship, forced begging, sale of human organs, farm labour, and domestic servitude. 80% of all victims are women and girls, 50% children. Take a minute to visit this website and sign the petition to the UN, they need a million signatures by february!
Go to www.stopthetraffik.org to sign the petition!

she just helped me without condition
as a hospitality...she was kind and bright...i know she's God's precious..

we, korean, are sharing about
how she was good to foreginer.
