IDM, Steve Reich and other 20th century experimental composers, Nurse With Wound, Throbbing Gristle, Laminar, Soleilmoon records and Broken Flag artists (esp. Matthew Bower). Feelings of isolation and fear.
143.6 was begun in 1999 when Hickory, NC high school student Nick Salomon found himself very inspired by the new and exciting musical genre of IDM. Using several freely downloadable pieces of software and a MIDI keyboard, Salomon attempted to create his own Intelligent Dance masterpieces. Unfortunately, he lacked both the necessary tools and skills to make even the simplest of electronic compositions. Rather than give up, Salomon chose to continue exploring new musical ideas despite the limits of his talent and equipment. He began conducting rudimentary audio experiments and creating lo-fi compositions which incorporated them. Through friends and his own exploration, Salomon was introduced to the noise underground as well as several key 20th century avant-garde composers, which prompted him to move in more hostile and uncompromising directions with his sound. Over the years, Salomon continued to hone his technique, and by mid 2006 he had completed eight albums and one EP. Thus far 143.6 has made only three live appearances, but all were highly memorable and deeply disturbing for both audience and performer, involving such spectacles as playing with worms, shooting aerosol flames, a self-given body massage with a raw cow tongue, and a bath and dance in ketchup and flour. Salomon's ultimate goal with 143.6 is to put out an anthology or compilation with a known and respected noise label. He would also like to see the legalization of domestic horse meat production and consumption in the United States within the next decade.

The 143.6 discography remains almost entirely unavailable to the public at this time, and all live appearances, along with a few extremely limited tape and cd releases have been done under the name Nick Salomon through Filco and Searchwielder records.
