When you ask the guys in One Friday where they got their name, you’ll usually get three different answers ranging from “the darkest and brightest day in our history” to “the single greatest display of love.” But invariably and almost in unison you’ll hear “it’s the day our Savior died for us.” That’s One Friday. A vocal group with dynamics to spare, but an unwavering unity.
You’re just as likely to find these guys roaming the audience at a concert as you are to find them on stage. Lovers of music and what it does for the heart, they’ve made it their lives from the first time they could speak. Growing up in churches that put a strong emphasis on vocals, their passion has been and remains to be the use of the greatest instrument ever created; the human voice. With a blend that some would call “blood harmony,” they have chosen to spread the message of Christ through song. In a time when rock-bands are the pop music, they have continued to do what they were born to do: sing.
The brothers Willy and Josh Henderson grew up on a healthy diet of rock, bluegrass and acappella music. Over the years they shaped and re-shaped their sound until one day they said “man, let’s just sing.” But they quickly realized that something was missing. Along came Cody Ridgway. Cody made a huge impression on the brothers with his fire for God, his love for people, and his amazing tenor voice. A strong friendship ensued which built a firm foundation for the group. When Willy’s poignant baritone, Cody’s unbelievable tenor, and Josh’s earthy tone were combined with a talent for arranging, the pieces came together and a group was born. Their belief that “nothing speaks to the soul like music” is what drives them to spread the message through songs of love and hope that can only be found in Christ.
