   About One Groovy Coconut
The first truly great Long Island band of the 1990's, One Groovy Coconut did more than just write fantastic pop songs. Years of watching Saturday morning television combined with the influence of classic 70's bubblegum, OGC created a persona that was nothing short of amazing. Their early live shows have become the stuff of local legend. Christmas, Halloween and even Groundhog day would become theatrical events in the Coconut world. The finest bands of the era dreaded following them at the height of their power. With master showman Joey Coconut at the helm and the astonishing Limbo on the guitar, One Groovy Coconut churned out pop song after infectious pop song with the greatest of ease, with the unexpainable Andy Coconut right there to drop his own special dementia into the soup. (Check out the Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo...) As drummers go, Craig "Craig O'Nut" Santiago was a force to be reckoned with. a live drummer if ever there was one. All elbows and long hair. Later, with the addition of second guitarist Mark DiCarlo, the band would become an indestructable pop machine. Sharpening their harmonies to a razor point. This site is a tribute to that particular era of One Groovy Coconut. I'm sure there are many of you who did your time at Sundance, Sparks, New York Avenue, The Roxy Music Hall, Voodoo, etc... This is for you. I'm going to continue to bring you more pictures and music as I've always done. Great bands live forever. Long live One Groovy Coconut! IMPORTANT! Dealing With The Detour... This Page does NOT in any way, shape or form, celebrate what in Coconut history has come to be known as "The Ska Detour". In terms of the band's success, some might suggest this was a great period for One Groovy Coconut. But speaking in terms of soul, emotion, integrity and musical direction, this was considered by many within the inner circle to be the darkest chapter in their fifteen year career. Forsaking friendships and allegiances in exchange for hollow acceptence in a fleeting, and all together soulless scene. At its best, this period birthed the Coconuts infectious 2nd album, "More Like This Than That". At its worst, this period's pathetic state, complete with horrifying Led Zeppelin covers, forced out one the Coconuts most fascinating and eccentric members, the legendary Andy Coconut. Thankfully with the departure of Craig-O-Nut, a man called Mike "Regular Mike" Coconut came into the fold and injected new life into the weakened line-up. Combined with the return of Andy Coconut and a return to a far more creative form, One Groovy Coconut sold back into the original music scene which they themselves had help create.

The lead up to this fairy-tale wedding affair was full of all the intrigue

and pressures that come with planning a star studded wedding as this…

long in the making, high stakes, all on jusino’s shoulders…..

the hints of a reunion have been dropped like bombs in the weeks prior,

Chris stating his intention “Not to play at my wedding” (this was an incorrect statement)

Andy with pregnant wife in tow, would not openly commit…Mike, pounding down

SoCo & drinking beers with asparagus in each bottle…..

There sits Pasquale, barely surviving the musical onslaught that only a wedding

Repertoire can bring…..Midway between the Main-course & Garter toss I realize that

I have been asking the wrong people in regards to an OGC reunion…so I jot down

2 songs on the back of our place holders, and head to the bride, after all it is “HER” day.

I hand her the set list “Coconut Shack” & “Havin’ a Goodtime”…she looks up in approval,

How can I go against HER wishes, on her day…….BUT

Quickly things looks dim for an OGC reunion…Mike falling into drunken stare,

Andy uncomfortable with the thought of playing a 5 string custom bass.

Sue & Pasquale are the first to ditch, he’s had enough of us, and off they go.

almost on que, Andy plays the “My Wife is Pregnant, get out situation card”

and the Farley’s head up to the bride & groom for the envelope hand off and goodbyes…

Mike, looking resigned that we would not play….Gina, in my ear…Go up and get them…

I creep up behind Andy as he reaches the Jusino’s….Chris looks up, and goes…NO.

Andy nodding in agreement…..Mike catches the Touch frontman & tells him it was time…

You could almost see the blood drain from Andy’s face as the announcement boomed

Thru the PA…”We have a lot of musicians in the house today, & I’d like to call up

One Groovy Coconut to the stage”……applause & hollers erupt from the room……

As I push Andy across the dance-floor, (his first and only time on it) I catch s
