One Kind Radio started on April 1, 1997 as a means to promote Independent music that was not being played on the FM dial in Chicago. As OKR began to take off.... more musicians, fans, and publications from all around the world had taken notice to the amazing sounds of these bands that most had never heard of. Being that creator John Bowles had found that OKR had been a struggle with his demanding work schedule and could no longer continue keeping up with it... One Kind Radio stopped transmission on April 1, 2005.
On February 15, 2008, John met up with long time music journalist and work associate of the music industry with Christine Rodriguez. Christine, her band had been played years ago on OKR, set up a meeting to talk over bringing back OKR and making it one of the best sources in Independent Music once again on the web.
After ironing out the details... talking over the latest in technologies... and gathering some of the most creative minds in music journalism, promotions, radio broadcasting, and even some whom are currently musicians themselves to be a part of the amazing staff of OKR.
On April 1, 2008, OneKindRadio.com is now back larger than ever... with in depth articles and straight forward reviews... a web based radio show that plays music from the best Indie bands from not only the US, but from around the world... and a staff that is dedicated to bringing you all the news and sounds of Independent music that you need to know about.
Thanks for tuning in and keeping Independent music alive...
