One Little Indian was founded in 1985 by members of the punk band Flux of Pink Indians, and inspired by the do-it-yourself principals and anarchistic ideals of independent labels, such as that of anarcho-punk band Crass.
Throughout it’s 20+ years in the industry, the major aim of the label has remained simple: to give its artists complete creative control. This objective is continuously on display with bands and artists such as Björk, Underground Railroad, and Rose Kemp.
In 2003, One Little Indian UK branched to North America planting the flag at a new office in New York City. One Little Indian US was born and the label immediately began to release dozens of titles from its new catalog across the pond, introducing a fresh arsenal of North American talents, including Polly Paulusma, Jesse Malin, Michael McDermott, and has recently introduced the Icelandic DVD Magazine Rafskinna to North America.
