I don't like typical model photo shoots... they bore me. You find someone you don't know, tell them to arch their back and pout for the camera. It's all so fake. I want my photography to be a capture of what I really see. I can catch a moment where the person LOOKS like a model in that perfect pose, but really they just stopped to look at a beetle crawling across the room and it just clicked. I love shooting singers and bands because they have great stories to tell and it's usually refreshing for both of us to have a completely different type of photo shoot. I love long exposures and unnatural lighting, so night photography is great. I'd like to make some new friends, get some ideas and maybe just find some people who don't mind my camera stuck in their face while we're walking around hanging out.

That's my next investment...good lights. I don't have any and am always trying to figure out new ways to use the resources I have to make a great shot.
For that shoot I did, I shot it for the bands website and they gave me the script for each shot...found hung in a park, fell from her balcony, etc..stuff like that. So I had guidelines to follow, but it could look how ever I wanted it to. As long as the point came across.
And as far as a creative block, I just got out of one of those myself. I hadn't shot much in the past year, bad job, depressed, frustrated with life...stuff just kept me from letting my passion come out and do what I love. It wasn't until I got laid off and had time to get myself back to a good place again that I really let it come out. I'm really happy now and have given myself the time and effort to go out there and do something with my camera. I usually just go out with friends and we figure it out as we go. It never comes out the way we originally thought it would. That's the fun of it.
And please, feel free to vent any time. Lord knows I did that a lot myself :) Its always nice to talk to a fellow photographer and share what your thinking. It helps so much.
Hahaha...yea, I randomly found that my picture was posted there and it made me just role my eyes at how stupid people are sometimes. I felt like I had to defend my idea :)
Thank you so much. That shoot was one of the most fun shoots I have ever done. My friend was willing to do anything to make it more believable and that in turn made it easy for me. I hope to do something like that again someday.
How do you get your ideas to shoot? I mean, that picture you have as your profile one is pretty awesome.
