Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Nick Drake, Pink Floyd, Robert Plant (solo work), muezins ,Tinariwen or anything from the Sahara region of Africa, the amazing Buena Vista Social Club of Havana, Krless or anything remotely medieval/European middle ages, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Cream, all the old blues players and legends (too many to name but you know who we mean), Animal from the Muppets, and generally everyone in the world who really has feelings to express through the sounds they make using whatever instruments they can find...
Sounds Like
"...they put me in mind of Queens of the Stone Age and then Fleetwood Mac all with a Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots vibe and Cobain vocals. Yes a real mixture but they really grab your attention."
As of December 2006, One Man Down are no more because it would prove to be impractical trying to keep the band going with members living in 3 different cities from around that time. We'd like to thank everyone who has been there for us and cheered us on along the way - we love you all! It's been a real pleasure!
To find out what the band members are up to now with new projects follow the links below:
"One Man Down a varied and eclectic style, with a thoughtfulness and poignancy in their sound that is fairly rare in rock music today."
(Ryan's Gig Guide)
"...they put me in mind of Queens of the Stone Age and then Fleetwood Mac all with a Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots vibe and Cobain vocals. Yes a real mixture but they really grab your attention." (Independent Wolverhampton Fanzine)
"They capture danger and grace in this machine age." (MAS Records)
"Your fingers look like they are having an eplileptic fit!" (Paul Sanders from Kubla Khan talking to Neville)
"I've always found One Man Down to be a sound bunch of lads." (Jez, Anubis Manager)
ONE MAN DOWN are an eclectic band and very hard to class by genre. We formed in July 2003 in the Birmingham area of the Midlands. Paul and Toby have been performing in bands together since the tender age of 16. We have used every opportunity to perform the songs that we have written, and to further develop our technique and style.
Our style is a hybrid of various sounding styles from many different parts of the world. Hear the post modern new wave feel of Boris Karloff, the bouncing yet ethereal ska feel of Cease to Care, and you can't miss the adapted Middle Eastern persona of Marauder.
It is our use of such varied influences in our repertoire that allows ONE MAN DOWN to offer a refreshing alternative in the way of modern music.
A line-up change in October 2005 introduced Neville Hubball on bass. Neville brought many influences with him ranging from the raw funk of early Red Hot Chilli Peppers to the now rarely used sound of a walking bass. Rory Deans was the next new face in the line-up just before 2006. He brought with him a mix of qualities including more versatile percussion, and he lists his favourite drummer as Travis Barker.
ONE MAN DOWN are a unique and exciting band with strong writing skills linked to the past and moving things into the future of British independent music. You won't hear many like us!
