The summit which intends to “Bring Hip Hop Back To The People” was derived from various discussions with youth who concluded that Hip Hop was the best instrument to create social change by engaging diverse youth in a movement for peace, unity and social justice. In our first two years our summit has featured world-class Hip Hop acts such as KRS-ONE, Dilated Peoples, Visionaries, Percee P, Aceyalone, Medusa, Mystic, Chino XL, Crooked I, Defari, Sly Boogy, and Dirty Birdy amongst many others. We have also featured local break dancing and graffitti crews, such as Soul2Soul, The Funny Bones Krew, The LA breakers, and Top2Bottom.
The One Nation Hip Hop Summit is a benefit for the services and programs of the PYFC, a youth serving organization that is on the frontline addressing violence stemming from youth conflicts throughout Los Angeles. The PYFC’s model program of prevention and intervention includes a recording studio where youth recently completed a CD compilation titled Best of the West Coast Underground Vol. 2. and Vol.3
The third annual Summit is an extension of the PYFC’s success in reaching youth through the power of Hip Hop culture, music and the arts. All of the proceeds raised through this event will enable the PYFC to continue to provide culturally relevant programming that reinforces the values of non-violence and respect for the diversity that makes up our community.
The PYFC invites you to join our movement for the third year to bring hope, positive values, and direction into the lives of youth. The One Nation Hip Hop Summit is the largest cultural arts festival in Santa Monica for and by youth.
