S.J. Dibai's Interests
General
I write. I read. I collect music, some of it so obscure that I have to stop and ask myself how I've even heard of it. I obsess over food. I cook. I take long walks and just reflect. I ride on trains and buses and stare out the windows, making note of everything I see along the way. I get off those trains and buses and explore. I engage artists in lengthy conversations about their work or their perspectives on life in general. And if the music moves me, I dance....especially if there are beautiful women around.
Music
I'm most interested in rock, pop, singer/songwriter, and R&B/soul, but I care about all types of music from all eras. Now, I'd like to know something about you: can you name the songs I quoted at the beginning of my "About Me" section? Bonus points if you can also name the artists. :-)
Movies
None in particular right now, but I just remembered I have a bunch of old Sherlock Holmes flicks I haven't watched yet.
Television
"Boston Legal," "How I Met Your Mother," "The Simpsons," "Friends," plus others I watch whenever.
Books
I'm currently working my way through Timothy White's Rock Lives, which contains this awesome quote from Daryl Hall: "Rock and roll deals with the acting out of your emotional, conscience-oriented, and sexual feelings in front of someone. That's a big step in self-realization, because once you get in touch with your body that way, you can't go back, whether you're the performer or the audience reacting to it. And feelings expressed that directly can prove offensive to some people."

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing; doo-wah doo-wah doo-wah doo-wah. Ooh eee ooh ah ah ting tang walla walla bing bang. Bang bang the boogie to the boogie say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie. Because unless you're paralyzed from the waist down, your ass was made for shaking.
S.J. Dibai (ess-jay dee-BY) n.1. An extraordinarily talented (and extremely humble) music publicist and music journalist from Philadelphia. 2. The life of the party. 3. The class clown, even in the absence of an actual class or classroom. 4. The quiet, withdrawn, mysterious loner. Usage: It is generally acceptable to use either the first two initials or the last name in informal language. Ex: "Yo, SJ, what's up?" "Yo, Dibai, what's up?" However, the less common Mr. Dibai and Mr. SJ are also acceptable.
As a music publicist, I get to work with some of the most talented and distinctive acts on the Philly scene today. And here they are! They are all musically diverse and these videos give you just a taste of what they can do:
I've actually been a music journalist much longer than I've been a publicist, but I've been spending less time on music journalism because PR has proven to be more fruitful and more rewarding. I still write, though. Please check out One Note Ahead, my safe haven for anything I feel like writing about. Also, I write for the indie music website Crunkbox, and you can click here to see what I've written for the 'box thus far. Finally, my proudest achievement: Spectropop, the world's leading authority on '60s pop music, saw fit to publish my magnum opus, the definitive history of a classic Philly band called The Kit Kats! Thank you for reading!
If you'd like to know about me on a more personal level, you can look through my "Interests" and read some of my blog entries. And of course, you can also ask whatever you'd like to know. But if you ask where I was on the night of the 14th.....I may have to consult with my lawyer before answering.
S.J. Dibai is a proud member of WXPN. Perhaps you should be, too. :-)
Who I'd like to meet: Um, that's WHOM I'd like to meet, thank YOU very much!
Eureka! That's it! I'm getting my old band - Richard Roundtree's Nose Hair - back together, getting some new background singers, and calling the whole thing... PJ Proby's Trousers.
Yeah, I'm gonna try to make it out. Their shows are superhuman. I'm glad you dig the videos. I'll let you know when Greg's second set is done. It's looking sicK!
Hey SJ, long time. How've you been? We've been giggin up and down the place and loving it. Hittin the studio soon to get some more tracks done, will keep you posted.
Hey man! We are at the beach - great place - right on the ocean! My niece brought her laptop so I can stay linked. The sump pump scare was a false alarm. Not sure what the noise was, but all was cool. Talk to you later.
Well, although I can't come home again, nor make it alone I now know I'll never walk alone so, yes. I feel much better. Nothing wrong with my world... Many thanks and a Niki Hokey or two to you.
I love checking out your page. You really have to read everything each time you view it because you change and update it often. I do notice however, that I am not in your top friends. Maybe someday. ;)
