Hello my peeps,
And how are you doing? All is well with me. Last weekend, my hubby and I went on a road trip to Memphis. Since it was the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death, it was packed with super nutty fanatics and Elvis impersonators. Elvis impersonators are kinda scary up close. Trust me. Like clowns. All in all, a great weekend! So in the last few days, I found the free time to watch 2 new films. Superbad (hahaha!) and the Invasion (aaaaahhhh!). But did Masa likey? Let's find out!
Superbad, dir: Jonah Hill, 1 hr 54 min, Coming of age Comedy
This movie had a lot going AGAINST it for me. When I first saw the trailer about 4 months ago, I was excited about it. But since then, the trailers have been all over the place. If I saw that "I am McLovin" clip one more time, I would have shot myself. Well maybe shoot the tv. So, going into the theatre, I pretty much knew what was going to happen. But about 10 minutes into this film, I realized how great it is! I love Superbad! The dynamic between the two main characters is fresh, hilarious and heartwarming. One of the issue, many of the critics have with this film is that it seems 15 minutes too long. Not for Masa! The last 15 minutes are the best! I love how it's super hetero and homo at the same time. But aren't all great movies? Anyways, see it. It's worth the hype.
The Invasion, Dir: Oliver Hirshbiegel, 1 hr 33 min, Horror/Suspense(I guess)
Oh Nicole... So, the invasion is about the world being taken over by emotionless aliens. And the kicker: the alien virus grows when you're sleeping. Ahhh! So poor Nicole Kidman has to save her son and the world without nap time. It's hilarious because it seems like she gets sleepy right after she finds out she can't sleep. I mean it's like 6pm and one eye is already closed. So sleepy... Oh and there's an amazing scene with her son. It pretty much goes like this:
Nicole: "Hey kid, mommy's really sleepy. And you know what happens when mommy sleeps? She dies and becomes a scary alien. So.... if you love mommy, you inject this mountain dew into my heart, so I wake up. Now hold onto this very large needle. Can you be strong for mommy?"
Kid: "Uh...."
Nicole: "That's a good son. Remember when mommy sleep... you stab me in the heart. Really, really hard."
There are a couple of spots that were kinda creepy, but it never gathers enough momentum to keep the audience involved. Speaking of the audience, that was us and one guy right behind us. Sad. I love Nicole Kidman (that's right, I admit it), but she can't save this film. It's stinky.
Okay Superbad alien invaders, I give Superbad 4.5 out of 5 Rosies and The Invasion 2 out of 5 Rosies.
Okay there's only a week or so left in summer! What the hell are you doing on the net? Go outside and enjoy the sun! Chow,
Masashi
