When asked to describe the style of music One Who Stayed plays, drummer Jared Miller, the often outspoken and self-described “chubby guy” in the band, has said “We play good music. I don’t mean that to sound cocky at all, but we play what feels good and sounds good to us, and we hope that others feel the same way. We are like a musical buffet, both in the emotion of our music and in the genres and influences we explore… some people are content with going to a restaurant and having the same dish… we like to taste everything on the buffet.”
Hailing from (in and around) Binghamton, New York, One Who Stayed consists of 3 primary members: Dan Dauchy sings and plays acoustic guitar, Micah Banner-Baine plays the violin and Miller covers the drums and percussion. One Who Stayed also often features Jim Glasgow ..o, Griffin Sargent on Violin and Anthony Quattrone on bass guitar.
One Who Stayed plays original music, with creative roots generally originating with Dauchy, though everyone in the band brings their own input, creativity and musical stylings to the table to create sounds and arrangements that reach into the alternative, rock, classical, folk, emo and pop genres. Comparisons have ranged anywhere from Rufus Wainwright to Radiohead, Damien Rice to Coldplay. They have released one CD, a 7-track EP entitled Stowaway. The title track was featured on Binghamton University’s Late Night Binghamton compilation CD in 2006, and has enjoyed airplay on college and local radio. Two other tracks from the CD, “Gone” and “Rhythm” have both been featured as “Track of the Day” in the Acoustic genre on GarageBand.com. The CD is available on iTunes, CDBaby.com, Rhapsody and a score of other online retailers and digital download sites.
One Who Stayed takes great pride in the fact that their live sound is big enough to fill a concert hall, yet has the restraint and versatility to pack into a tight corner of a coffee shop and feel right at home. They are regulars at Binghamton’s live music hotspot, CyberCafe West, and have played at the popular Magic City Music Hall in Johnson City, which has a show calendar full of popular regional and national acts. With an extensive travel log, One Who Stayed has been welcomed by coffee shops, cafes, clubs and concert halls throughout New York’s Western, Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and Leatherstocking regions, as well as venues in Northern Pennsylvania. One Who Stayed also caters to the college crowd, with appearances at (SUNY) Binghamton University, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY IT, Mansfield University and Hartwick College. They’ve even been known to play a wedding or two.
One Who Stayed is currently in the studio working on new demo tracks that will undoubtedly appear on an upcoming release.
