MONALISA BROWN, born in Chicago, Illinois, was raised in the suburbs of Matteson, Illinois, being the middle child of four sisters and three brothers. As a young child, always vying for the center of attention, Monalisa began participating in church and school plays. She went on to attend Rich South High School where she became heavily involved in the Drama Club and has been an active member since.
MONALISA BROWN has been involved with the entertainment field since the age of nine from her evident obsession with watching television. Her involvement in writing and acting began with the play called Welfare, received the attention of Fox news. At the time the live taping hit the airways, Monalisa knew she was destined for greatness in the entertainment field.
From this point, Monalisa desired to maintain the momentum of her growing career thus choosing to enroll at Columbia College in 2003. She is presently pursuing a major in Theater with a minor in Psychology. Through her studies Monalisa found herself getting more involved in film, however maintaining ties with theater. Throughout her active college career, Monalisa contributed in the film department assisting students with their short films and independent projects in addition to accepting audition calls throughout the country.
After one of her trips to Los Angeles, Monalisa decided to remain there for a couple of years in order to make herself accessible to the industry. It was during this time that Monalisa discovered other talents - rapping and singing. She came across the group Octane Ryder’s who further developed her skills as a rapper. As her talent developed, Monalisa began to do shows across Los Angeles, later returning to Chicago ready to establish a name for herself. While in Chicago she came into contact with several producers such as Allen Brown, Rob Diggy, Big MEL, D, Emsoild, who assisted her in putting demos together. Rob Diggy took a likening to Monalisa and introduced her to a house music legend Ron Carrol. Ron opened many doors for Monalisa and heavily invested in her endeavours.
Ron trained and prepared Monalisa in becoming an artist. Monalisa performed weekly and sacrificed all of her days to training. Ron and Monalisa began touring. Her first tour was with Ce Ce Peniston and Dawn Tallmen.
As she began to grasp different feels for music, Ron introduced her to house music. Monalisa would rap over house music and sing her hooks.
Simultaneously, she become involved in independent films. Her role in Bernard Dixon’s Lyrics was her first paid feature. As this stage in her life, Monalisa was expressing herself in the acting world and for her, in her own words, was “way of escape”.
