Gudrun Eden (vocals) and Rose Hart (rapper) met at music college in 2007. There, they found a mutual passion and understanding of melody, lyrics and fusion.
Gudrun has always sung and has always written her own material. She grew up listening to christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill , Jill Scott and many more. She has also been immensely influenced by Garage and Drum n Bass.
Prior to The 34, Gudrun worked with producer, CKG mostly focussing on ballads. In more recent times she has recorded with rapper English, on the tracks 'I know I can' and 'My Life'. Working also with producers Muddy Loop featuring with Joe Green on 'Do things to you' and solo on the track 'Put it on you'. The house track ' Everything you do' by producer SKT is one of Gudrun's latest projects.
Rose started off pursuing a singing career, writing solo tracks and featuring on English's 'That's just not me'. However, after discovering her main talent was lyrical content and being accused of 'singing too many words in one line' decided to explore rap. Growing up being influenced by the likes of 2Pac, Talib Kweli and The Roots, this was an easy transition to make. Of late, Rose has featured on tracks with Rapper English, namely, 'the phone riddim' and 'It's not that' and featured on Baby J's Mixtape under her alias Prose. With a music collection consisting heavily of the likes of J Dilla, Q-Tip and De La Soul Hip Hop is definitely essential in Rose's expression but not forgetting the greats such as Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, music in general is the inspiration.
The 34 have performed at various venues and events. The most recent being 'Shoot a Ball Not a Gun' put together by Street 2 Elite. Also, have performed at a night put together by Liberty Hall studios in Whetstone and several times at 'Sunday Sessions' in Great Portland Street.
The duo record mostly at Liberty Hall Studios, who have supported them since they began working together in 2008 and without whom, The 34 would not have evolved. This is where they met Funk Head Fred who has been utterly essential in all the recordings up on the myspace page to date.
They continue to write, record and perform. Please continue your support by listening to the tracks currently available and The 34 will keep you posted about up and coming gigs while getting more tracks uploaded for your listening pleasure.
