"I haven't heard an album this pleasing to the ear in a long time. I will say this up front: On The Surface needs to hold on to their production crew... Based around the powerhouse/smooth harmonies of co-singers Heather Fogarty and Anthony Brodeur, this disc is a highly polished pop rock production with no flaws detectable. I'm no barometer of music marketing, but these songs should be on the radio (and I mean mainstream rock radio, not the charity WFNX slots) NOW. If it's not, well, you may have missed your
shot at the big time. I hope not. This group is very talented. To name other bands with similar sounds would be a cruel joke, because the homogenization of the band's sound is just too good. I could say more but I have a word limit." Mike Loce of The Noise Magazine
"The Very Best Of Me", "Pulse Pulse", Still As Beautiful" rank in my top 10
list of new hit singles by the Boston band On The Surface. This outfit has a clear, clean, crisp approach which fits in nicely with current modern pop music on the charts today... These 5 mega talented individuals bring an excellence to the genre that is rare in young bands, don't be surprised to see them on tour here in the UK soon." Peter Colby of Sound Magazine
"With the current crop of new US/UK bands comes Boston band On The
Surface (Mat Amdur, Drums; Heather Fogarty, Vocals/Keyboards; Anthony Brodeur, Vocals/Bass; Bill Knaus, Guitar), a group whose new CD The Fall should put them a full head and shoulders above the lot. Pulse Pulse, their first music video shows a lot of what makes this band so captivating - undeniable good looks and youthful energy in abundance. Really. Pulse Pulse [ finally] puts more than a pretty face back on the Boston sound." Matthew Lee Davis of Syn. Inc. Hong Kong
ON THE SURFACE came together in Boston, MA during the summer of 2001. Currently based in Los Angeles, OTS features dual lead vocalists Heather Fogarty (vocals/keyboards) and Anthony Brodeur (vocals/bass). The band's sound is rich with thick vocal harmonies, guitar hooks, and piano licks, drawing from various influences such as Jimmy Eat World and Weezer to Hanson and Silverchair.
While still in High School, Anthony and Heather (who were dating at the time) joined forces with drummer Mat Amdur to form On The Surface. With the addition of two guitarists, they began performing all around New England. Quickly, they dominated the Worcester bar scene (even though they weren't old enough to enter the venues) and were voted "The Best Pop Act" by Worcester Magazine. OTS played virtually every High School, VFW, and College in the area before graduating on to the major Boston rock clubs. A local staple, they opened for a slew of national acts including Simple Plan, Plain White T's, Switchfoot, The Format, Mae, The Matches, and many more. John Popper of Blues Traveler even joined the band onstage for an impromptu jam.
Years later, Anthony and Heather ended their relationship, but the band soldiered on making music. Their bond was stronger than ever. The quintet released their self-produced debut album "The Fall" in 2006. After graduating from college, they relocated to Los Angeles where they have played regularly at The Viper Room, The Key Club, The Troubadour, Spaceland, The Echo, The Hotel Cafe, The Mint, and The Dragonfly. Their song "The Very Best of Me" was featured in the season finale of MTV's "The Hills". As of today - their myspace page has over 100,000 friends.
