On the wind
You’ve flown away
When you finally met the flames
The fire, it burned so deep
Took my heart, scorched my soul
Now you’re gone
Far beyond our reach
While your last farewells
Still echo in my dreams
I never knew that morning light
Could be so cold, yet shine so bright
I could run
I could hide
But whatever I do
You would be on my mind
Think of all the good times we had
Your sweet comfort when I was sad
On the wind
Your final flight
From the fire
Into the light
Fire, will you be my friend?
Will we meet again
In the end?
Fire, you burned so deep
Took my heart
Left me alone,
In tears…

NEW TRACK: "Duisternis of Licht" dutch remix by SUBLIMINAL
"It seems ages ago when Jef offered me the chance to remix one of his very fine songs, but actually it has only been half a year ago. Still it took me awfully long before I really started working on it, for which I offer him my sincerest apologies. At the time I was listening to Neither Speak Nor Remain Silent from Fovea Hex and I thought that Vuur, the dutch adaptation of On The Wind, would be the right song to try something in that direction. In spite of the fact that dutch is my native tongue (well, not exactly, but close enough), I have never been a big fan of the dutch language, especially when used in music. But the lyrics for Vuur resonated with me and Diana has a very beautiful voice, so remixing this song was an easy choice to make.
By the time I actually started working on the remix I had forgotten all about my initial plans of giving the remix a Fovea Hex treatment. I would probably not have been able to do it anyway. I decided to stay closer to the original than I normally do when remixing a song, because I felt that it would suit the nature of the project better. I used the vocals, piano and cello from the original and added a bit of percussion from Independence Free and Absynth. I decided to bring the tempo of the middle part down to that of the rest of the song and to leave out the cello in that part of the song. I also used this middle part, this time including the cello, to create an ambient intro to the song. For that I used Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch tool to time-stretch the vocals and cello and a standard algorithm from Cubase to do the same for the piano. The imperfection of this last treatment was a deliberate choice. Towards the end I added Jef's (only slightly slower) piano to make the transition to the actual song a bit smoother. In the song I used both piano takes Jef had sent me, feeding one through a reverb from Reaktor and the other one through an effect from the Kore Player (probably from the Compilation Vol. 1 Kore Pack), making the piano parts sound more like synth pads.
I hope that the beauty of the original still shines through this remix, but that the remix itself offers enough new and interesting elements to justify its existence."

Welcome to the "On The Wind" around the world page.
"On The Wind" is one of the songs of my Songs of Love and Loss project and the very first song I recorded with
Ann Van Canegem
.
The song is about the feelings of loss and loneliness of a person who has just attended the cremation of a dear friend or partner, saying goodbye to the ashes blowing on the wind...
I am now inviting talented musicians from all over the world to create their personal arrangement of this song and to translate and sing the lyrics in their own language.
I am more interested in the personal style of the musicians than in sounding like the local folk music. The personal interpretation is very important and I would also like to end up with very different versions in the end. That is why I leave musicians the maximum amount of freedom in their treatment of the song.
For example, in some cultures cremation is not allowed, but still I think it would be possible to change the lyrics in a way that the feelings of loss and sorrow for the deceased remain.
I chose this song for various reasons:
First of all it is a rather simple song, which makes it easier for other people to have their own way with adding arrangements and other instruments.
The feelings of sadness, loneliness and loss expressed in the song are rather universal and recognisable in many cultures. The different versions of the song will show the wonderful richness of our different cultures and languages, and at the same time reveal that deep within we are all the same humans, despite our differences. At least, that is what I hope.
Like the ashes of a loved one are floating on the wind around the world, I hope this song will go around the world in many versions, and touch people's hearts and minds...
This is a long term project.
Finding the right people for this project is not always easy, and often requires a lot of searching and researching until you finally find someone who is ideal and would like to participate.
Talented musicians are most of the time quite busy and have other commitments before they can start thinking about their arrangement.
During the first months I have learned that key-elements in succeeding this projects are patience and perseverance.
So when someone tells me he or she would like to participate, but can only start within a few months, that is ok by me, as long as I can be assured that the commitment is real.
What will happen to the music in the end?
I would like very much to release this project on CD in the end, that is if we can overcome all the legal issues that are involved in a project with so many people from a lot of countries.
But it certainly would be very nice if we could release a CD with a nicely designed booklet with lyrics of the songs, pictures and bio’s of the musicians and a few song notes.
I am certainly not doing this for the money, so I am thinking about teaming up with an international peace organisation (or something in that kind) if they would be interested.
I’ll have to do more research and inquiries about that.
More versions are in the making and will be added on a regular basis.
If you are a musician or lyricist and want to participate feel free to contact me here or via the myspace page.
I am currently looking hard for a native russian speaker who can translate the song from english into russian. I already have a very talented russian musician who agreed to take care of the singing and the arrangement but she needs help with the lyrics.
I also hope that these songs will invite you to visit the profiles of all participating musicians to learn more about themselves and their music. I have provided links to their pages where ever possible.
I am very happy to present to you the first localised version of the song: "Mit dem Wind", the german version by Mindmovie (Achim Wierschem), and sung by the wonderful Sara England.
I like this german version very much, because it is so different from the original english version, but still remains really true to the feelings expressed in the song.
Besides the musical treatment, I like the free translation of the lyrics very much. I understand some basic german, at least enough to understand how beautiful Achim has done the translation. I advise everyone to open the lyrics panel and try to understand the german words. The ending is so sad and emotionally sung by Sara:
“Feuer brennt so lodernd heiß
und mein Herz, gefriert zu Eis
Bin alleine...”
I think everybody can relate to that feeling when a true love is lost.
This is what Achim told me about the making of the song:
"I sat down and wrote the lyrics, it is as you may realise not a word to word translation but still close enough to have the same story and feeling as the english original.
Then I mounted Sara's vocals over your midi backing and told myself that it would find it boring to have two times the exactly same backing (english and german version) just different vocals.
So I first ruined your beautiful piano by putting a weird effect on it and deleting many notes you have played.
After that I created a hollywood string sound using Spectrasonics atmosphere
Copied this sound again to a different track and took a sound out of hypersonic to put some more movement into the string sound (not very loud but really interesting).
Than I added some simple percusssions using Stylus RMX my favourite drummer.
After that I had a word with your midi cello and changed it into a mixture of flute, whistling and french horn sound.”
Mindmovie is a member of the german band Flaming Bess and is active in many other projects.
Thanks Achim and Sara for this amazing gift.
When you listen to Guiem’s music for the first time, you recognize immediately that this is an amazingly talented musician. The richness and emotion in his music, combined with virtuoso playing captures you from the beginning until the end.
I was very pleased and honored that Guiem, who I first met at mi7, was one of the first people who agreed to do a version for this project.
Guiem sings and played all instruments, and he tried to obtain a mixture of spanish and mediterranean style.
He told me the translation has not been easy because some words did not fit very well with the original melody, but he handled that very well.
The birds at the beginning are real, because the song was recorded in a countryhouse. It sounds quite charming...
The idea for a dutch/flemish version of "On the wind" dates from before I started with this project. Already in beginning 2007 I started working on a dutch translation of my own english lyrics. However, there were still a few lines I was not totally happy with...
I was very happy when Diana agreed to work on the dutch version. I love her voice and work a lot and I was hoping to work with her since a long time.
She started working on the lyrics based on my earlier work and she came up with a solution that I never thought of... she cut a few lines and changed some lines and that made it just perfect...
She recorded her vocals on the existing arrangement and afterwards I rewrote that and added a few woodwinds to make it more lyrical and weeping, to accord with the vocals.
Thank you for your wonderful work Di !
Don't forget to check out Diana's music at myspace!
On this version the cello part is also played by the lovely and talented Deryn Cullen from Entropik.
“Genom Skyar” - Swedish version by Lo and Blue Planet.
I met both Henning and Lo on MI7.
When I heard their beautiful collaboration “Spirit Warriors” over there, I asked them if they would like to collaborate again on the swedish version for the "On the wind" project.
I was very happy they both said yes, and I hope you will like the result as much as I do...
I am very thankful for their wonderful work on my song and I hope that this beautiful version will invite you to visit their websites and explore more of the music of these talented artists.
You can read all about the creation of this version, the musicians and the swedish lyrics on the dedicated page at my website:www.aeronaut.be.
Henning also wrote a brand new arrangement for the english version of "On the wind" , for which Ann and I recorded new vocals. More about that soon...
Lo told me that “Genom Skyar” actually means “Through The Skies”... close your eyes and let the song take you there...
The new version you can hear now features Mindmovie on guitar. Magical guitar work from a talented musician and friend!
When Henning Backhaus (Blue Planet) started working on the swedish version with Lo, he made his first draft on the original english vocals with Ann.
Ann and I were both so charmed by his arrangement that we decided that this could become a very beautiful new english version.
We recorded new vocals for this arrangement, and recorded also a lot of backing vocals and improvisations. The arrangement by Henning proved very inspiring and Ann and I had immediately the same feeling on the approach for the vocals. It was sheer pleasure to work on.
Then we sent all the material to Henning along with some rough ideas. Henning performed all his magic on this and this is the result...
We hope you will enjoy this new version!
Visit the website of Blue Planet, a wonderful and talented musician.
When Henning Backhaus (Blue Planet) finished the swedish version with Lo, Mindmovie asked me if he could turn this into an instrumental version.
Knowing what a talented musician and amazing guitar player he is, I was very excited by this idea.
After Mindmovie came up with some terrific guitar work, the piece went back to Henning and using the new material he wrote a new arrangement for this version.
I am really amazed by how many beautiful versions this project has already delivered and I hope you will all enjoy this enchanting instrumental version.

風 の 行方 (Kaze no yukue) the japanese version by PREFIX...
When I first heard the wonderful music of Prefix I immediately though they would be the ideal duo to tackle the japanese version of the song. Everything was there, inspriring music, skilled composers and producers, a beautiful voice...
So I was very excited when TK and Mairi answered my request saying that it would not be easy, but that they were more than willing to take on the challenge.
When you will listen to the resulting track, I think you will agree with me that they have done a great job, and I hope it will inspire you to check out more of their music.

There comes a time comes in your life when you finally get it...This is your Awakening..............................
THE AWAKENING .............................................
BY SONNY CARROLL.....................................
There comes a time comes in your life when you finally get it..................................................
When in the midst of all your fears and insanity you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere, the voice inside your head cries out - ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......................................................... Enough fighting and crying, or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears and through a mantle of wet lashes, you begin to look at the world through new eyes. ........................................................... This is your awakening. .......................................................... You realize that it's time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety and security to come galloping over the next horizon. You come to terms with the fact that he is not Prince Charming and you are not Cinderella and that in the real world, there aren't always fairy tale endings (or beginnings for that matter) and that any guarantee of "happily ever after" must begin with you and in the process, a sense of serenity is born of acceptance. ........................................................... You awaken to the fact that you are not perfect and that not everyone will always love, appreciate or approve of who or what you are ... and that's OK. (They are entitled to their own views and opinions.) And you learn the importance of loving and championing yourself and in the process, a sense of new found confidence is born of self-approval. ........................................................... You stop complaining and blaming other people for the thing
Care is the sweetest form of love. So when anyone says, 'Take care', it's as good as saying, 'I will keep you in my heart till it's very last beat.' ~SWEET DREAMS~

Heartprints of kindness And genuine concern. May my heart touch a lonely neighbor Or a runaway daughter Or an anxious mother Or perhaps an aged grandfather.
Send me out today To leave heartprints. And if someone should say, "I felt your touch," May they also sense the love that is deep within my heart......... Hello my sweet friend may you always be blessed with love...... justing sending my hearts prints to make your day ...... love, light, and happiness xoxo mp
