David Tew grew up in the small town of Ingold North Carolina. Unknown to many this small rural town was filled with loving, hard-working people that helped to instill in him the qualities that make him the man he is today.
David graduated from Union High School in 1981 and it was there that he met his true love Sara Wright. They were married in 1982 and on June 25, 2007 celebrated their 25th anniversary.
David started playing guitar at 10 years old, and mandolin at age 15. He joined a small local bluegrass band which consisted of Phillip Burke on guitar, David Burke on dobro, Andy Johnson on guitar, Chuck Merritt on bass, Tom Langdon on banjo, and David Tew on mandolin. Later, Tom Langdon moved away and Danny Grant filled his position.
David left bluegrass behind for several years when he joined a local country band , "SUGARSTILL". After about seven years of the clubs and private parties David was getting burnt out on the band. He said " One night I was singing a Vince Gill song and the line that goes; "I'm standing at a crossroad with just one concern, which bridge to cross, and which bridge to burn." That was exactly how I had been feeling. It was like I didn't know which way to go because, I love music, and I love sharing the talents that God has given me. I was burnt out! I wasn't burnt out on the music but I guess I was just tired, and God used that song to show me which bridge to cross and which bridge to burn!"
The bridge that David chose to cross was the one that led him back to doing God's will and singing for Him.
David recently entered the title track from his cd "On the Winning Side" in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. The song was selected as a finalist and also received second place in the finals at Merlefest2008 on Friday April 25.
David has written about 40 songs, three of which are on this page and one that can be heard by going to the link below.
Go to this link: http://www.myspace.com/genabritt and check out Gena's music. The track entitled "Little Eyes" is a song David wrote several years ago. Gena was gracious enough to include it on her latest cd and she does an
outstanding job on it!
