   About Opal Dust

Having started to play the guitar aged nine, Paul played in a couple of bands in Leicester then moved to London and started playing solo at acoustic nights. Early performances were nervous and drunken affairs and one of them featured a crazed middle aged woman streaking during his performance and being unceremoniously thrown out into the snow.

After a couple of years Paul decided to record and release some demos and elected to use a band name to hide behind, and the name he chose was Opal Dust. He is unsure where the name came from but believes it was either revealed to him whilst in a shamanic trance that he entered following a month meditating at a retreat deep in the Himalayas or that he got it by combining the names of two bars he walked by during his lunch hour.

Having released a demo Opal Dust performed their first live gig in 2007, with Paul ably assisted by Al on second guitar. Since then Paul has continued to perform, both solo and with other musicians, and record.

Opal Dust believe music should express truths that are both personal and universal. In fact, they named one of their demos Personal Universal, partly for that reason and partly because it rhymed.

Opal Dust believe music and comedy are the purest forms of self expression because unlike other media such as painting or writing they bypass that great enemy of art, the brain.

Polytheists to the core, Opal Dust worship the two great gods John Martyn and Paul Westerberg.
