About me:

Open Books is Chicago's first nonprofit literacy bookstore-to-be! We are run by a small group of silly, smart, social, and seriously book crazy women -- and a slew of spectacular volunteers of all sorts. You should join us! But how? Let's break it down!

1. Read about our mission, team, partners, progress, plans, and home: everything about us, in one easy place.

2. Sign up for our e-mail list! NO SPAM -- just the latest scoop on author events, Open Books open houses, book swaps, book clubs, pick-up days, literacy classes, and much more.

3. Follow along with breaking news at the Open Books blog, Read All About It, and get early invites to events, along with links and comments from the girls behind the scenes.

4. Got good-quality used books? Looking for a good home for them? DONATE your used BOOKS to help someone else learn to read them. It's easy! Find out more!

5. Make a monetary donation! Your CONTRIBUTION is fully tax-deductible. Pledge now and know that you are helping Chicagoans learn to read!

6. Help us spread the word and promote literacy! Send us a friend request, tell your friends about us, repost our bulletins, or buy an Open Books t-shirt and wear it around town. (You can also get your baby a onesy, your doggie a dogsy, your coffee a mug, and much more on our site!)

Who I'd like to meet:
Book lovers, volunteers, donors, teachers, students, readers of all skill levels, people of all ages who want to learn to read, and fun folks from Chicago and beyond!

Want to help kids foster a love of reading? Become a reading buddy at our new sites in Irving Park and North Lawndale!

Interested in taking your class or camp on a field trip? Come to our us for an adventure in creative writing!

Are you a teacher who wants reading buddies in your classroom? Let us know!

Hey Open Books!

Yay for you guys! Keep up the great work!

I'm in the process of getting out more books for struggling readers including some cool adult stuff... so please keep checking my Website for info. www.eliseleonard.com

But for now, if you know of anyone looking for fun, fast-paced, high-action, funny books that are like video games but are EASY-TO-READ (and did I say funny???) then please tell them to try the AL'S WORLD series!

Readers can check out my Website at www.eliseleonard.com, and if any of your patrons want to take pictures reading my AL'S WORLD books and want to email me the pics, I'll put them up on my Website: www.eliseleonard.com on the FRIENDS page! [They'll be famous! I get hits from all around the WORLD!] Just hit the contact page on my Website to send them to me.

Oh, and the second AL'S WORLD book, KILLER LUNCH LADY, was nominated for an ALA Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, so if you guys want to vote... go for it! :-)

Thanks for the add, and keep up the fantastic work! I think we have similar goals... to get EVERYONE reading (and enjoying it)!

~Elise Leonard
Author of the AL'S WORLD series:
Book 1: MONDAY MORNING BLITZ
Book 2: KILLER LUNCH LADY
Book 3: SCARED STIFF
Book 4: MONKEY BUSINESS
