It's hard to believe music could make you feel this good!
Founded in 2000 by Toronto friends Marysia Czarski and Sharon Ross, the annual 'OPEN DOOR' Festival of Music for the city's two front-line Red Door Family Shelters reflects the tradition of presenting rising stars and talent beyond the horizon in an eminently street-worthy cause and has become a "cause celebre in the city". (National Post)
The Red Door Shelter provides safe and supportive emergency housing to individuals and families in need of refuge from domestic violence and to those who find themselves without accommodation. It assists residents in their efforts to establish a stable life outside the shelter through education, counseling, community services and advocacy on their behalf.
Open Door artists for 2009
Madison Violet (aka Madviolet) - Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac are "poised for greatness...
exquisite harmonies" - The Winnipeg Free Press
Their latest CD is receiving rave reviews in Europe, spins on national radio in Denmark, Germany and BBC 1 in the UK.
It is in the Top 5 on the iTunes singer/songwriter section and 3 in the Mojo Playlist - Mojo's Top 10.
Lentic - the new “folktronica” project by Ember Swift, is folk and world meets electronic and groove: Chinese traditional instrumentation takes the hand of Western song structure and leads it to the dance floor. English and Mandarin mingle.
Hannah Georgas - With infectious and spellbinding melodies, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter opens up her heart and soul with her music and seizes those pure moments you only wish you could describe.
Major Maker- Lighthearted indie rockers with retro-cool. CBC's 2008 Galaxie Rising Stars Award winners. Their wildly popular "Rollercoaster" and "All I Wanna Do", which aired on commercials for Maynard's Candy and Telus cellular phones, generated dizzying blogosphere buzz, mainstream attention and a licensing deal with EMI Canada.
Adam Soloman - 2005 Juno Award Winner for Best World Music Album of the Year. This multi-instrumentalist sings in six languages and controls the guitar effortlessly, fusing Mississippi Delta blues with a wide variety of traditional and modern African rhythms. In conjunction with the CBC, Adam continues to perform with a diverse group of pan-African musicians (including Madagascar Slim and The Mighty Popo).
Diana Braithwaite & Chris Whiteley - "Manna from Heaven" -Blues in Britain Magazine
Braithwaite has been dubbed “Canada's National Treasure” by Blues FM 91.1 Radio Show Host Danny Mark. Whiteley has 6 Juno Award Nominations and won the Jazz Report Blues Album of the Year, Maple Blues Awards Horn Player of the Year and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year.

I absolutely LOVE that you have Ember Swift on your page!!!! Thanks for the add and do you like having spoken word artists improvising at your festival, because if so, I'd love to come down and participate ... especially to help a good cause in my hometown! Keep working at what you do and keep in touch ...
